An attack on a North Sea oil pipeline or platform would make a mess and damage Europe's economy. But it wouldn't have the same bang for the buck as flying into the London or Frankfurt stock exchanges would.

You know why? Probably because of the 'OSLO Accords'. To fundy's this was a sell out by the Palestinians. Therefore it would be symbolic if they struck at Oslo.

            That must be the reason!

I'm kind of curious why they chose Norway over Poland.
Thanks God that they did (or was it a mistake of theirs).
I think we're not prepared for terrorist attacks. Well, no-one really is, but I'm sure Norway will be a harder target.

IIRC, the Norwegians agreed to extradite a suspected Al-Qaida terrorist.

Though I don't suppose they would have been happier if the perp was tied to a block of concrete and dropped into a fjord instead.

It's also rather ironic that they threaten an awesome attack, then Algeria gets hit by a major earthquake. Allah was aiming at Norway, but missed?

Doesn't Norway have oil? We all know that islamic terrorism is really just a front for the CIA and that gives US an excuse to occupy the country and Protect the Free World.:P

                                Why is pretty simple.

                                1) Read Sayyid al Qutb or al Maududi - all infidels are targets, as are all Moslems who do not strictly follow the Qu'ran and Sharia law.

                                2) Constantly focusing on limited targets with high alert levels constrains their ops into high risk, low probability of success.

                                3) Expanding their target focus globally means that a lot of (fixed) intelligence and law enforcement assets will now have to look and listen at a lot more potential operators in a lot more potential target areas. The result is either dilution of existing intel assets, or the need to spend more money (in rough economic times) to train, equip and support more intel and LE assets.

                                4) The political effects are no lose: Either greater unification of the infidel world and more propaganda for a truly global jihad, or else smaller countries will isolate themselves more from western policy, and try to appease terrorists. Global jihad between radical Islam and the rest of the world is what these *******s want - go back to point 1 and read al Qutb and al Maududi. Isolation of the US and key enemies, or appeasement, helps as well, they just have to change their tune a bit.

                                5) Getting ops thwarted and busted repeatedly isn't good for fundraising or morale. Picking on previously unsuspected targets let's them demonstrate some form of global reach and operational success.

                                6) This is also an economic war - as has been referenced by OBL and AAZ in the past. Increased security is costly, and hinders the free movement of people and commerce.
