  • Evil, Evil Norway?

I'm really curious why Al Qaeda would single out Norway for special terrorist attention. I mean I can understand why they're want go after the US, UK, and Australia for stomping them in Afghanistan and then for knocking off an Arab tin pot dictator but Norway? Theonly thing I can even think of is that Norway join the UN peacekeeping forces in Afghanistan and a Norwegien F-15 dropped a few bombs on a couple of hairies but that was months ago.

I am equally perplexed at their decision to bomb the Belgian embassy and I am left to guess that it was just a non-muslim target of opertunity for these fanatics.

Interesting indeed. I can't see why they would keep grudge them being in UN peacekeeping in Afghanistan, because then they'd have to attack pretty many countries. Norway however is a member of NATO, so that might be one, and they did attack with fighter as you said. Other than that, I can't figure out why.. because if those are the reasons, then they should be threatning whole bunch of countries. Although I'm not from Norway, I'd hate to see any attacks there because it would feel like we would be under attack too.. Mind you we share a border and are small countries. Less distance than inside Texas.

I hope they don't ever plan on doing it, because it will make us super mad. We go absolutely ballistic about it but we couldn't act on it. Though, I'm NOT sure, but I think Norway IS our military ally.. Not sure. I think they are? I think we have some kind of 'you attack one of us, you attack all of us' thing? I believe we might have one.. so maybe.. maybe we could retaliate and kill bunch of fundies after that, I don't know but I hope so if they attack. They attack Norway, they attack us.

I doubt that OBL and Al Qaeda possess the capability of thinking rationally. With such fanaticism, I'm sure they aren't the most competent military or terrorism planners. They might be intelligent and capable in some regards, but certainly their mental health defects must also impair their abilities. Leaders do really stupid things. And even the brightest military minds make mistakes. I wouldn't put Al Qaeda on the list of "great military minds", anyways. I don't find their lack of intelligent planning all that surprising.

Or perhaps they know of some secret Norwegian conspiracy.

But then again, Norway is not seen as a big brown nose for the US. Rather silent partner I guess.. So, why Norway? Why? I do not know.

I know there is a rather large muslim community in Norway, but.. I really don't know. The logic of this seems to cryptic for me. If they're looking for making N-Europe their personal enemy (like that we're in trading blows terms) then sure. We kill you all.

I would guess this is a target of opportunity. Some other country's active cells have been arrested or disrupted - so carrying out this sort of attack is perhaps all they can do for the moment.

Mind you, I'm not sure if this is organised team or a lone indepenant.

I'm kind of curious why they chose Norway over Poland.

Cruddy, that might be true, but it would be bad move. In here, well they don't have support, but we're not biggest supporters of the US and the war on terrorism. We are not against it, but we're more neutral than many other countries. So attacking us would only mean more support for the US and big support for the war on terrorism, against them. If they want to go on and make the whole world really angry at them, I can't see why it's a smart move. We are small, but together we are force to be reckoned with, and they will meet whole lot of pain, suffering and death if they wish so. I think even threatning us publicly should be punished with whole bunch of dead fundies.

Besides, are there any really good targets in Norway? I think not.. no targets like the US is full of, or other European countries. I really doubt they will actually attack though.. just beating their nipples. But it should be taken seriously, so there's no big surprises and that we can counter fast.

I'm afraid they mentioned Norway because they already have plans on an attack on Norwegian interests

Norway, meanwhile, says it has no idea why it was singled out by for attacks on its interests.

BBC's Lars Bevanger in Oslo says people there were baffled because Norway has a reputation for its attempts to bring peace to the Middle East.

Norway has some troops in Afghanistan, but analysts say it is small and other countries have larger numbers.

Our correspondent says the Norwegians are hoping al-Qaeda simply got its geography wrong but they are nonetheless taking the threat seriously.
