  • Matrix 2 ... is it crap?

Yeh this has probably been discussed already but I just saw the movie the other week and there is always room for one more thread.

Anyone else think that the Matrix 2 was just a way-too-long computer-gizmo-using fight scene orgy? Useless things like story-line and good actiing seem to have fallen off the back of the truck when they made this movie thats for sure. As a fan of Matrix 1 it made me cry to see this tacked on piece of digital fluff masquerade as a sequel to a great movie.

The movie is non-sensical and there are too many threads which lead either nowhere, or else nowhere comprehensible. The "climax" when Colonel Sanders gives his monologue is pretty weird and I walked out scratching my head. There is a thin line between being cutting-edge, different and edgy, and being just plain so stupid that people cannot understand anything.

    I give the Matrix 2:
5 out of 5 for special effects
1 out of 5 for story
Verdict: Worth seeing but not a classic, and nowhere near as good as the first.

    Yeah. That was the point.

Useless things like story-line and good actiing seem to have fallen off the back of the truck when they made this movie thats for sure.

The acting was lightyears ahead of Episode II and I've never been big on storylines. Douglas Adams is my favourite authour and he never bothers with them.

As a fan of Matrix 1 it made me cry to see this tacked on piece of digital fluff masquerade as a sequel to a great movie.

I found it superior to the original in every way imaginable. The hacking was real. The fight scenes were better. The first hour didn't put me to sleep.

Verdict: Worth seeing but not a classic, and nowhere near as good as the first.

Verdict: Better than the original and probably better than Revolutions, but not as good as XMen2.

Okay smarty pants. I challenge anyone here to tell me what actually happened in the movie. I'm not talking about the bits where Neo punches Smith, Smith kicks Neo, and so forth. I'm talking about why is this the 6th matrix? Why has Zion been destroyed 6 times already? Is Neo a human or just another program? Why has Neo already done the whole "find the source" thing 6 times already and made the same choice every time and thus never destroys the Martix? Is he still in the Matrix when he unplugs from it? If not then why does he have super powers outside the Matrix at the end of the movie? Who are the guys with the white dreads and why aren't agents as good as them?

      I await your insight.

Note: "Its all nonsense drivel dreamed up by two stoners" is a perfectly valid response.

I reckon your kind of questions will be answered in the 3rd and last movie... However I haven't seen the movie, so my opinion is worth ****

I have to mention though, that the acting in the first movie is horrible, except for that black guy... reeves and the ugleh chick sucketh big timeth
Also don't try to understand a deeper morale or philosophy in it.... there' isn't any.

Reeves should play in movies in which he plays the absolutely ridiculous wimp
American pie and other crap movies are good examples

My point exatly. The fact that the movie tries to have deep philosophies behind it, and fails miserably to do so, is what pisses me off.

Why get pissed off? Just ignore the babbling and enjoy the splosions. That's what I did with Terminator...

Why has Zion been destroyed 6 times already?

Yeh I know. But its my damn brain. It won't let me watch the ka-booms without forcing me to try and understand the babble.

OMG mofo, I'll type teh whenever I want cos I'm drunk => look at the time of posting, not a healthy hour to be awake when having class at 9 o' clock, and obligatory I am fooked

by the way don't even try to compare terminator with the matriux... I enjoyed the first episode because there was some l33t fighting in it, but Terminator was simply godlike (terminator 2 as well, if not more)

Story in action movies is for sissybpoys
Though I have to admit, Steven Seagull movies are just TOO dumb... A good story does contribute to the experience. The matrix however is a boring piece of storyline, seen it a dozen times already in computer games.

The opening few minutes of the movie were good. Then the next 45 minutes ****ed. Waaaaaaay to much needless talk - very poor pacing.

The person I was with hadn't seen the first Matrix and the first half didn't do much to enlighten her to the concept.

Then they remembered the first Matrix and the movie became an action adventure movie with some neat philosophical layers. The movie redeemed itself for me as it progressed.

                    I'd give it a 3½ out of 5. Original Matrix 4½ / 5.

Fortunately, I now know that if I see the movie in the theater again that I can show up a half hour late and be none the worse for wear. It's good to know these things.

Kinda how like in the first Lord of the Rings movie it was helpful that the stunningly boring part came about halfway through the movie. It's bloody difficult to be a soda fiend and sit through a three hour movie without a break...

i feel mixed about the movie. some of it seemed too excessive--particularly the dancing/sex scene (dune, anyone?), or the mech/powerwalkers in zion (do they really need to twirl their guns?--and please, please get the lighting right next time...)...

the rest of it, though, i was satisfied with. although i almost feel sorry for lawrence fishburne, because badly written dialogue given to a good actor does not make it good. it's not the content that i have a problem so much with, but as the words themselves...

Brilliant movie. It turned the whole prophesy thing on its head. Why were there 6 matricies and zions. Because some number of people always figure out that something is wrong (that whole choice factor the architect talks about). These people then escape to Zion. What is Zion? Just a control method for the matrix.

Machines inject chaos into ther matrix system, then control the other side of the equation via Zion. Whenever some balance tips and too many people figure out that the matrix is wrong, they shut the damn thing down and use "the one" to figure out how to improve the next design. (Doesn't seem to work though given that the Architect mentions that matricies seem to be running to ruin quicker with each build). It's kind of like 1984 where Big Brother even controls the resistance movement. Very Frankfurt School.

Besides, it had the coolest car chase since "Metro" and Zion reminded me of my youth spent in dance clubs.
