Unfortunately, I didn't see a midget in the patent.

Probably because Rube Goldberg already has all of the patents that employ midgets.

... I thought MHD created electricity with no moving parts?

Not that I don't think it has potential... to send most posters to sleep.

MHD generators have moving parts. The plasma stream, for one.

As the old saying goes, magnetic fields do no work. This sounds like total bull**** to me.

Another strike against the US Patent Office. Boo.

Hmm, no matter. I still intend to patent my wonderful machine: A fan blows into a propellor-powered generator...which generates electricity to turn the fan!

It shall make me rich! Rich, I tell you! Rich beyond your wildest imaginations!

Actually Ramo. Magnetic fields do the work by waiting for the world to revolve around them.
I actually think this is bunk but I always leave my mind open to stuff I don't know. If they build one I'll be in line to examine and measure it.

Can you tell me where this energy is coming from? Certainly not the magnetic field (look at Lorentz's force law).

Here's an interesting example of longitudinal waves:

But you probably understand ExH, so we don't need that discussion of moving a conductor through a magnetic field to get electricity.

I'm not sure what you're getting at with the link... This guy's invention still sounds like magic to me.

And yes, I'm familiar with Poynting's theorem (though have never seen it for an EM field in matter).

Yes, that requires movement, which is what this "invention" can do without.

The world does not revolve around magnets. They revolve with the earth.
