I'm I the only one that realizes that quality educational programming should NOT be something people just let "sink"?

If it is really 'quality' then let it survive on its own merits.

So? Its a TV station with some educational programming. Big F'ing deal. Why do I have to pay for it?

Put that money into fixing up the public school system instead.
Oh yes. Take away money from an educational service that was working to one that wasn't....And everything will be fine!

Big f'ing deal?! Yes, it's certainly a big f'ing deal! Every person should have a chance for education whereever they want it and to deny them that because you dont like it is.........So capitalist of you

Obviosuly, the government must recind laws that ban full frontal nudity and sex on tv, becuase obviously, since the market is invariably right, this is what the people want to see (just look at porn's profitability) and all the silly and obnoxious "god-fearing" just gets in the way of your average American getting to see nubile young coeds have sex every night on TV.

IMO PBS still has exceptional programming. Have they really suffered due to it? Were they mainstream, it would probably turn into another WB!

Besides, do we really want our kids discovering the world from in front of a tv?

Put that money into fixing up the public school system instead.

People seem to watch it, even if they watch survivor much more, indeed. However, it appears people don't watch it enough for the advertising to bring enough money.

These shortcomings are to be balanced by the State, in its attempt to educate the people (or maybe you don't think it's a State's responsiblitiy ?). Without this help from the State, this watched channel can die completely, letting its audience unable to watch quality.

Imran, you are truely giving me a much deeper insight into the growing concern of stupidity in America.

PBS spends a great deal of time wth pledge drives now a days, more then before, to make up for budget cuts. The corporate advertisin is not that bad, given that they stick it either in front, or at the end, instead of during the program.

If schools are really a better way to spend time than malls, let's stop legally mandating that students attend them.

I have absolutely NO problem with it. Look at it this way, HBO is the most free market station out there and it has the best quality shows in the business. 'The Sopranos', 'Six Feet Under', yes, even 'Sex and the City' are wonderfully made.

Every person should have a chance for education whereever they want it and to deny them that because you dont like it is

They do... it's called schools and libraries. If they really, really want education on TV, then the ratings for PBS would be high enough that it wouldn't need governmental support.

There are lots of educationl cable networks on TV now, things like TLC or discovery. where PBS shines is with things like the News Hours, Nightly Business News, Frontline, or things like the Rise and Fall of Jim Crow or Ken Burns the Civil War, series to expensive to make for things like the History Channel.

Exactly! Which is why, in order to restore the economy of our country, we MUST cut all funding to all currently government-funded education services including public schools.

If people really really want it, then quite simply it will happen As you said

By that merit, lets cut all public education funding period. All of it.

Because that's EXACTLY what I said . Because public schooling and publically funded television are the same.

Tassadar, when you've run out of arguments (as you just have) and start putting words into the mouths of others (ditto), then you've lost the debate .
