  • Rave Anthems

Hi, well its been a few years and im still clubbing at 33 years of age eeek.

Ok well ive been looking around some old 12"s and stuff and am trying to get as many old rave tunes (late 80's to mid 90's) on my PC as I can remember, other than looking for names on Kazaa and stuff, do any of you remember names of artists classic hands you once threw your arms in the air to.

I'll start, hope some of you can add to the list.

    Alternate - Infiltrate
    Second Phase - Mentasm
    The Phschopaths - Nightmares
Fortran - Look to the Future
    GTO - Bullfrog
Mrc et Claude - I need your lovin
    Remirez - La Musica
Mr Kirk your son is dead

etc, etc. Ill go get some other 12"s from my moms so I can add to the list at the weekend.

PS I'm not just looking for a list of songs off the back of a CD but something that means something to you.

Tell me about a good rave you went to, do you remember Eclipse in Coventry, Shellys in Stoke or bit more recently Back to Basics (the pleasure rooms in Leeds).

Assuming your DOB is correct on your profile I am suprised at your keen memory for the experience you had given you were 10 years old at the end of the era I referred to.

Never the less you contribution is most welcome, if your into old school rave good on you.

I would prefer this kept on topic (we all know there were loads of good tunes after 1994 to.....)

PS. Im not stuck in my ways in would say the tunes of the new milenium are just as good if not better than old shool.

      Just look at:

Brainbug, Time to Burn, Warrior, Zulu Nation for some more recent examples.........

I maybe young compared to you but i've literally grown up as a Gatecrasher junkie

Once I've finished my chem ill try list a few of the old skool and aceed type tracks that i can remember

Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

              Shouldn't that be "Altern8" and "Fortran 5"?

I never got to Eclipse, but Shellys in Stoke has some good (and some not so good memories (lots of peolpe getting taxed outside springs to mind)), I had a couple of nights a B2B but it was around the same time as Cream was still credible, and Liverpool is a lot closer to Chester than Leeds, so I didn't go that much.

                  Some tunes:

                  Praga Khan - Poison???
                  Baby Ford - 'Ouchie Kouchie'
Harley and Teller - "Ultra Flava'
                  Josk Wink - "Highter State.....'
                  Size 9 - 'I am ready'

Laz, it was a trip to Gatecrasher that convinced me I was too old for clubbing, everyone seemed so young and the music wasn't my style, too many cyber kids dancing to dodgy trance tunes!

in the end of the 80´s/ beginning of the 90´s rave has been a different meaning than it had later. it wasn´t really techno based, but sounded more like Brit Pop - just better. I was on a couple of rave parties in Berlin during this time where the DJ played music from bands like Carter USM, James, EMF, Inspiral Carpets, Charlatans, Blur, Stone Roses etc. this all has been calles rave.

is this kind of music included in your playlist Barley?

Sorry if these are too recent or anything since once a track passes 1 year of age and enters my long term memory it just enters into that 'old' category

N-trance - Set you free (classic really, much better then their new stuff)
808 - pacific state (still got this as a chillout mix now)
Shamen - Ebaneeza (naughty naughty very naughty )
Baby D - let me be your fantasy
Moby - Go (this really gets on my nerves now, though was good at the time)
                              Klubbheads - Klubbhopping
ps, its Praga Khan- Injected with a poison

stuck with the old school rather then trance stuff you seem to be getting at but to add to that one of my all time favourite tunes which was around when i started going out
                              Robert miles - Children

If you want some recent tunes better then Time to burn but with the same coarse sound then i know plenty of stuff like that if you want a few named.
Nobodies too old for clubbing saw some bloke who looked around 50 and was really short dressed up as E.T with flashing lights all over his cape last time when i went to Godskitchen.
The atmosphere at a trance party is better then anything else in my opinion, everybody is there for the good music and in good spirits wheras going out to the pubs in town on a night around mine is plain ****, too many idiots looking to glass others for no reason and such.
