Fez is right. The Feyadeen are nothing more than armed thugs. The only cause they fight for is the ability to retain their oppresive power over the people of Iraq,

Paiktis, Why would the US even want to cut a deal? The fighting may have been fierce at points, but at no time was the outcome of the batttles in question. The US public had been prepared for casualties. The President had declared Saddam a target. I just can't see a reason that they would want to cut a deal.

For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

Reds4ever, if you were talking about about the incidents where the US fired on those protesters... they were just returning fire.

Fedayeen is a word which means "sacrificed martyr". That's what terrorists against Israel called themselves before the 1980s. Now they call themselves another word which just means "martyr". I forgot it.

I think the word you are looking for is, "dumbasses."

Terrorism has a definition, you know. It is not simply a word people spray around for no reason (Arab states excluded). It is attacking a civilian for political purposes in order to terrorise them into aquescing (sp?) to a demand(s). Fedayeen are quite clearly terrorists.

Oh, for goodness' sake! Let me, a real journalist set all you conspiracy-mongers straight: The aliens took Saddam. Yes. They took Saddam and he's now serving as a sperm donor to all their women.

In exchange for humanity's noble sacrifice, the United States and her friends have free reign over all of Iraq, so long as they start protecting the 7,000-year-old structures that are really former alien palaces for the alien overlords who once governed all of Earth 12,000 years in the past (they had "temp" structures prior to 5000 BCE).

Yeah, yeah, I know. You don't believe it. Whatever. It's a conspiracy, I tell ya!

Sure Bush cut a deal. Why? Saddam threatened Bush were it counts. He threaten to fund the anti-war Democrats in the next election with the billions he has squirreled away.

GWB hates homosexuals, and Saddam promised to kill them if he lets him get away. But I think those sneaky Jews and Mexicans are at the bottom of this somewhere.

The people in the south had illusions that there was some fighting to be done - once there's large forces around your capital, you realize it's pretty much over. It also became obvious that the only leader around at his post was al Sadaf.

Hell, it was in the US press weeks before the war even started that US intelligence was in contact with a number of Iraqi leaders, attempting to arrange surrenders, etc.
