There's nothing inherently wrong with fanfiction. There's good, and there's rubbish.

What? I can't have an opinion?

I didn't like "Wuthering Heights", was well written, but thats about it... I feel the same way about Hawthorne though.

"The Bell", that was the dumbest book ever, and I have never read anything else by Murdoch.

Never read anything by Virginia Woolf, but I am sure my opinion would not change.

When thinking of ppl I regard as great novelists, not a single woman comes to mind... sorry.

Some can write good poetry, and I have seen some decent short stories...

Of course this is all IMO.

Jane Austen, George Eliot, Simone de Beauvoir, Sylvia Plath...?

Not to mention Arundhati Roy and Margaret Atwood.

Don't make me spit! And, around my house, Plath is a swear word.

I have had many conversations about women writters within my circle of friends. We have even read books by women to test our theory. To this day we have yet to find a women who we would declare as being an outstanding writter. Some may have gotten lucky with a halfway decent book, but that is not going to earn them the grade. If you have a specific novel/book you wish me to read that you feel would change my mind; shoot.

Note: I didn't mean this to turn into a "rip on Japher for having an opinion thread", was just trying to give mrmitchell some help on how to get his friend to stop writing crapola.

I did like "The Secret History" by that Donna tart.

Only because it's about a bunch of Classics students who go berserk and kill people.

Sorry to offend. Did I attack you personally? Or do you just want to argue?

Yes, there is something wrong with my head, but if it were stuck up my rear I would think it would smell worse, and be a little darker...

If it makes you feel any better I also think that there are very few writers today (male and female) that have any promise of becoming anything other than a pop-fiction writer, and an easy rip for screenplay writers.

If that's humour, then it's a fairly good attempt at some.
If you're not kidding, then your twisted little [deleted] needs to [deleted].

Well, beyond that, how do I debate with those whose arguing tactics are the type that aren't correct or right, but make you want to quit anyways, so it looks like you admit defeat?

It started out as humor, but then it really seemed to bug ppl so I kept proding.

I don't think I was ever rude. I told no one to go to hell, or that I have my head up my arse, all I did was say that I didn't like women authors...

No you never said you didn't like women author's, you said:

What does it matter? Women can't write anything of literary value anyway, so let them write fan fiction... that just my opinion... at least that way they don't have to worry about character development, subplots, or anything for that matter...

I personally, haven't read a lot of female authors I like either, that doesn't mean that no women have written anything of literary value.

Yes, you said it was just your opnion, but if you had simply said, "I don't like women authors", you would be getting a lot less grief.

                                ACK!
