Do you consider yourself white trash?

I can't seem to escape it. I grew up very poor. I'm not poor now, I make pretty good money- although I still live in a poor neighborhood. I just don't feel worthy enough to live in nice neighborhoods. I feel out of place. I was in a nice trendy bar the other day, and I just didn't feel comfortable. I am more comfortable amongst poor people. I'm not sure why that is.

I once said I wanted to live in a town near where I live. Another poster from the same city I live in said that was a white trash town. That kind of hurt a little bit. But I admitted I am white trash.

While I may not be poor like I used to, I still can't seem to change my behaviour to be higher class. What can I say, I still like cheech and chong movies .

Perhaps I can go to one of those schools that teach you good manners.

P.S. I do fail to meet one requirement though. I do not like wrestling. That is too silly, even for me.

A better poll whould have been:

Do you think Dissident is white trash?

There is a difference between white trash and poor. If people can't see the difference, no matter the income bracket, then I would consider them the white trash.

But, if you relate to Springer in anyway, then yes, you would be white trash.

    ACK!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

I'm a middle class white male twentysomething that is going its way to belong to the educated class. As such, I absolutely obey Stefu's definition of a forum member. Hence, I cannot be a "white trash" like you describe.

However, I hate upper class gatherings very strongly, and their smugness too.

Having moved in many different social circles in my life, I can say that most of the people living in the so-called fancy neighborhoods are just as trashy as the poor folk, they can just afford to be a little more discreet about it.

perhaps you guys are right. I don't like Springer or wrestling. Well I used to watch springer when they had fighting. But I was in the service, and I only watched because that is what everyone else wanted to watch.

another thing is art. I just can't get into it. And operals, ballets, and broadway shows. I don't see what the appeal is. Don't get me started on abstract art. It's crap.

"White trash" is hard to define, but I know it when I see it.

Think my life is the complete reverse of yours Diss, started with lots, now am poor (but when I got my degree watch out! ).

Oh but I hate wrestling too.

I certainly don't consider myself trash. Some of my neighbours are trash, I live in a trashy area.

                  It is an awful expression.

And just because somebody is poor, doesn't make them trash, and just because somebody is rich doesn't mean they're not. It's attitudes that would make someone 'trash' IMO.

Class is a joke. I know good people from every band, and the same goes for bad people.

In the old days I was quite outspoken about this 'modern art' rubbish. Don't like something just because culture may dictate it's 'classy' stay true to yourself.

                  I'm rambling now...

"I don't consider myself white trash and I like cheech and chong movies!"

I dont think that's one of the criteria.

If you have/are into the following, you might be white trash:

                      Mullet.
                      Nascar Jacket and or Accessories.
                      Double wide trailer.
Listen to kid rock and/or Toby Keith.
                      Chain smoke marlboro reds.
Consider wife-beater t-shirt as casual wear.
Have rear window sticker of Calvin peeing on Ford or chevy.

Though I am fairly poor, I do not meet those criteria (fortunately). But know many that do. These are my people.

I think I meet two of those criteria DetroitDave

well I don't really listen to kid rock, but I do like a couple of his songs.

actually I have a Nascar license plate, so that makes 3 things. . I didn't use to like Nascar. But I spent 8 years in the south in the military. I just picked it up.

The typical Michigan species (Michigandus Beerbellius ) usually has more than a passing interest in NASCAR, typically owning season passes to Brooklyn Speedway where he makes his annual migration with keg of beer, and huge flag with his favorite driver's name, in tow.

Just in case, I would start watching lots of public television immediately.

I am, without a shadow of a doubt, the English equivalent of White Trash.

I've drunk too much scrumpy, I've got into fights with Gypsies at funfairs and I once owned an XR3i.
