  • Western Apolyton Under Fire!!!

    NEWS FLASH

This is Amanda Arkland reporting from Downtown Catherin on the Border with Boondi Land.

Some time this morning explosions rocked the Shopping Precint, fortunalty the shops were still closed and only a few staff are reported lost. Though there are many still unaccounted for. The rubble is metres high where the Multi storey Carpark and office block once stood.

Explosions continued throughout the morning till late this afternoon. The Military has cordoned off the town and are beginning mass evacuations. All roads leading to the south have been closed as Boondi Artillery appears to be the culprit. No reason for the attack has been given but the area has long been in dispute with Boondi as to where the actual border lies.

The Government is currently trying to contact the Boondi government but all attempts have so far failed. No movement has occured towards our borders and the artillery has now gone quiet.

The Defence Minister stated that an emergency meeting of the government is underway and did state before leaving for the meeting that if Boondi failed to respond peacefully within 24 hours, a state of war would exist between our two nations.

This Amanda Arkland, signing off, in a stressful downtown area.

The Karakan Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has advised its citizens to avoid travel to Western Apolyton and Boondi in light of increased tensions, bringing to 5 the number of regions with such advice applying (Azan, Frankychanland, Khaftan, Western Apolyton, Boondi).
Everything changes, but nothing is truly lost.

        Catherin Burns!!

The city of Catherin is on fire tonight as Apache Helicopters from the Boondi nation fly in and attack anything they find. The Western Apolyton military is doing its best to hold back the attack , but locals fear it may be too little too late. All citizens are being advised to head to the highlands in fear of further attacks.

Western Apolyton has fully mobilised its army and airforce in preparation for retaliation.

OOC: Hey, what's this?! More genocidal maniacs attacking civillians in our backyard!?!?

            Grrrrr...

Guardinia is going to intervene, but I don't have time to post anything big at the moment... be back later.

Since Boondi is actually a poster here, I would wait for him to clarify the situation before doing anything.

                        History of the Clash...

                        From the Historic Apolyton Encyclopedia
A longstanding territorial dispute between Western apolyton and Boondi erupted in fighting on June 1st 2000, in the remote, rugged jungle mountains of the Catherin Ranges, where a stretch of border had never been clearly marked and where deposits of gold, uranium, and oil supposedly lay. Western apolyton claimed that the approximately 1,000-mile border between the two countries had been set by the 1996 Banjo Patterson Agreement, which had confirmed its victory over Boondi in a 10-day war in 1994 over territory. But Boondi declared the protocol null in 1998, before the last 48 miles of the border had been marked. Vowing to enforce Boondi's claim to the 48-mile stretch, President of Boondi ,sent troops and warplanes into the region (between the Guardina Border and Catherin Ranges); then Western Apolyton's president attempted to negotiate a peace. Each side accused the other of being the aggressor and deployed many troops along their joint border. Finally a cease-fire and truce took effect on March 1, 2001, after tense peace talks, calling for demilitarization of the disputed jungle border. Boondi reported losing several warplanes and almost 50 soldiers; Western Apolyton's official toll was about 30 dead and 300 wounded, but the casualties on both sides most likely were greater. On October 26, 2001, the two countries signed a peace treaty defining the 48-mile stretch of border, creating a committee to resolve boundary issues peacefully, and setting down terms for bilateral trade and navigation rights.

Unfortuanly it seems the dispute has arisne again !!!

OOC: Well, be that as it may. I will hold off for now, but if the reports of indiscriminate bombardments of civilian neighbourhoods are accurate, then Guardinia is going to be seriously pissed off no matter who is behind...
