After some problems, I am attaching four zip files in this thread for new unit sprites.
They would have been available a lot earlier except I and others discovered the the makespr utility is not 100% reliable. I found a frame with a problem could;
1) stop makespr in its tracks,
2) crash makespr, and
3) worst of all, complete makespr then crash the game whenever the unit moved or attacked.
The last one, rare but very frustrating and difficult to find. I now have a template folder of working frames and shadow files. I add 1 new animation sequence at a time, then test the sprite in the game to make absolutely sure, this way I can narrow down a number 3) error to within 10 frames.
The first sprite is the Heavy Spearman, based on the Civ 3 unit, designed to be the next development of the original spearman, this one having body armour. I learnt a lot in making this sprite, including sharpening the image as civ3 units are a little dull when blown up to CTP2 size.
