  • Multiplayer Strategy Guide

From reading in the other CTP forums I have noticed there is no multiplayer strategy guide. There is mention of the strategy guide on the market, but from what I gather its not helpful especially for multiplaying. For this reason I would like to write a multiplayer strategy guide for the multiplayers, by the multiplayers, of the multiplayers. If anyone is interested in helping me or donating their own strategies, please post here or send me an email at ericmusser1112@yahoo.com

    Thanks,
    Nimrod

    Tip 1:

Do not put maximum security around the city that holds your xenophorm lab.
It only serves as a big sign, saying 'please attack me'.

        Ok. 2nd:

Don't put many levi's or spaceunits in your underwater cities. One (1!!!!) (stealth)sub can easily kill them all. Just ask Maestro.

I think one of the biggest tips is to not waste production.... Strategy depends on the kind of map, and on the kind of land you are playing- A sea game is very different to a lands game.... I think the biggest mistake people make is to Build too much rubbish in a city.... apart from Granaries (always build before city grows to size 2 ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!) Aquaducts mills and later factories- just build military or settlers, In trade centres build Markets and Banks, and in Science cities GROW EM QUICK and then build acadamies Pub house and Uni, - Keep your work day maxed whenever you can, and under theocracy drop rations to 7.5 and up wages to 5 or 6 (depending on happiness) and max workday. Keep units on Stand-down until you know you need to use them (again Prod wasted if not), CHOOSE your science tree carefully, and Never go attacking a city until you know you can take it and hold it.... It's great sending a nine stack, taking an enemy city, then losing it the next turn.... In PBEM the game is played very differently to Internet gaming, wars are usually at end of renaissance with SOLS and Pikes (musketeers and Cannons usually too much prod drain) and the game is usually over by turn 100- 120. Attacks consist of a build up of Sols, some occupied by Pikes, OR muskets and Cannons on Land Map - Some use Cavalry - but they are useless defenders, no better AT ALL than having Phalanx in your city.... The other thing is you can never win a game by defending, !!

Nimrod, come play on line- you will learn MUCH.... I started playing in April and was slaughtered, now, online at least, no one can beat me easily... I even beat Paulno1 into submission!

Thanks Gavrushka, I think I will divide this into 2 sections. One for duels(1on1) and one for diplomatic games(4 or more)

Bird Man, Maestro you think might have something to do with the low defense for intercepters over water?

Nimrod it is a bug in the game - Leviathans in back row cannot defend against sea units..... crazy but true!

Being a 2 year veteran of LAN play, I have to add a few things.

Gav is right.......but only one thing. Dont build universitys or Academys. Anything that improves Science, or Happiness is a no-no. Cause all it does is run up maintence costs!! Which drains money from? You guess it! Your Science Budget

ok.....another thing. Believe it or not (just ask berX and look at the library) Tanks are stronger then war walkers! And bye far, cheaper. The only thing War Walkers can do is bombard...big deal. I dont defend with my tanks, I attack! So regardless.....let the WW bombard a musket in his way. Whilst you send a tank to waste em. Marines and Machine Gunners are the best defenders of cities. But for attacking, nothing beats a 5 Fascists and 4 tanks backing em' up in modern era. (all 16 attack). Artilerry also comes in handy behind Machine gunners in defending cities.

                  Tank
                  Attack: 16
                  Defense:8

                  War Walker
                  Attack:12
                  Defense:8

                  Marine
                  Attack:12
                  defense:8

                  MG
                  Attack:8
                  Defense:8

Saddam a size 8 city on Grassland / coast will pump out 316 science, when MAXED for science- the cost of maintenance about 40?? 40 gold at 60% for theo means 24 science lost..... for a 316 gain - It works.... 5 cities like that and you turn science off..... Berxpert cries at this point........ ...... leaving your money to rush buy things.....

Another thing - Later in the game if you have a full size sea city pumping 11,000 prod, put it to capitilisation, and with 4 spaces cities with Nanite Factories, you can pump out 4 Space fighters, or two swarm, and still get some change....remember if a city can build a unit in a single turn any prod over that used to build unit is WAISTED (well apart from reducing unit support cost percentage).....MAN THIS GAME IS COMPLICATED!!!

Of course, the most important thing in CTP (and it's a big plus over CivIII) is how you stack units. It doesn't matter how good a unit is if it isn't stacked with something else to compliment them with. Your stack of tanks makes nice target practice for bombers which soften them up for easy counter-strikes. For cost-effectiveness, a stack of pikemen wins hands down, but they show their pale arses to musketeers who can take them down at leisure. The perfect stack can become invincible in it's own era.

Maybe that's why i'm number one Or perhaps that's why i have delusions of granduer

Anyway I was mentioning Tanks and War Walkers. Another thing usaully is to sell off your older city defense units in the Modern Era and replace them with better ones.

I remember one of my first LAN games. We were already dueling with Muskets and Machine Gunners. Of course I had a contigent of about 4-6 phalanx in each city So the older units folded extremely quickly in what I thoughht, was really a false sense of security!
