    Ok then.

If you remember some of my thread "Do you know what... etc" I wanted that some players should "abandon" their seats if the game tended to be "dull".

As it is, the rating system do not support my wish - that's for sure. Who wants to get a 3xdefeat just because the rated game is dull?

So - don't give a player a penalty if/when he/she quits a game -but keep it if he/she changes from rated to unrated. And of course: If a player leaves a game as rated, he/she cannot join again as unrated without the penalty.

And let gamers leave the forum without changing their rank - just remove them from the official list. And do not allow them to join later under some DL (would probably be spotted anyway if some tried).

    How about this?
First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.

Blackice is right. Something has to be done to speed this Apolyton Site up --- Solver? Can you do something to help? Personally, I'm getting to the point of not wanting to come here and wait 3 to 5 minutes to post and read posts. Gavrushka, how is your www.civleague.com site coming along?

Regarding the CTP Ratings, we have to be careful not to change a system that is, for the most part, working and popular.

Here are my thoughts on the above player recommendations:

      1) I think that, determining the rated status of a game at the 9th turn mark, (rather that at the beginning of a game), is a good idea. This means that the first "PG Rating Calculation" will take place on turn 19, instead of 9. I will change this to a rule, if there is no objection.

      2) I am against using the Civ Score instead of the Power Graph to determine rating changes.

      REASONS:

      a. The CTP Power Graph (PG) has been used since the beginning of CTP Ratings. Changing methods mid-stream would cause inconsistancies.
      b. Players seem to be quite comfortable with reporting scores via the PG.
      c. It would be much more cumbersome to report on the Civ Score.
      d. A player cannot see the other players' Civ Score, (whereas, everyone can see all players' PG).
      e. Is the Civ Score really THAT much better than the Power Graph? Couldn't players then figure out a way to boost their Civ Score while sacrificing other "true" civilization measures? (As has been suggested about the Power Graph.)

      3) I still don't see a fair AND EASY way to bring a quitting player back into the CTP Ratings. (Remember, I have to program for all of these strange exceptions -- tracking how many times a person quits, and time between quits, and "black marks" and all of that). Please try to make your suggestions on "quitters/returners" very easy to implement, track, and enforce.

      Thanks for your "constructive" comments.

Steve the site was registered Thursday, I will get access Monday or Tuesday I think - It ain't hosted yet, and we desperatley need some programming talent to get it up and running properly - My ISP will do the job for me..... at USD 2000 (per month) .....

So we need to get a discussion thread up for some new ideas, and we would love to hear from people that wish to help - The whole idea is to create something that is interactive and responsive, that will evolve according to the people who use the sites wishes- So comment and interact, cos if u don't and complain later, then gavrushka@thekgb.co.uk will surface and wag his finger rather sternly

Perhaps if people want to quit they should be allowed to - if a game ain't fun, and you know you have to play it for a year more it would be like a prison sentence - HOWEVER if certain people are seen to be quitting a lot of games then the stern finger should be brought out...
        He's back after a fashion...

For whatever's worth, you should have the ability to resign. Why would you want to spend (serve?!) a year or so at the bottom of the PG? :banned:

Oh... and ... you can resign at anytime JPWW! Who said that you could not resign? Both The_True_Demosthenes and I resigned from Love Conquers for different reasons. We took our penalty and tried to fight back into the ratings. Various players have resigned. It is worth it sometimes to just get out of a game and suffer the penalty, rather than just sit at the bottom of the PG and get pounded each *9 turn. The reason for the penalty is to disallow players from easily just dropping out of the games they are doing poorly in, while remaining in the games that they are doing well.

This "habbit" to quit as rated players tend to go unrated when they are last (feel lost) in a game, will eventually lead to that each game only have 1,2 or 3 rated players left.

                              How about this:

No rated gamers can choose to go unrated in any (new) rated game.

If a rated player want to go unrated, he/she should also be "forced" to let another player have a chance with that nation (a replacement needed).

I still think, that games "lives up" when replacements are made - new attitudes, new open or secrect alliances - and new enemies.

                              **

As a matter of fact, I would like that no rated gamers could choose to go unrated in ANY rated game at-all, but that would probably be too strong for many of you .
First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.

                                Quinns,

Glad to here that you continue with the rating system after all.
The current system may not be perfect (why else would I be so low in the ranking ) but it is the best we got and its fun.

                                Ranking Teamhorses turn 79:
                                1. (Blackice)
