I suppose we accept the rules as defined by Quinns at the top of this thread?

What is the CIV lite mod? Do I have to install something for that?
OK, hours sound fair . We may wait for Swissy's and Slamp's response.

Yes, we accept the rules and we may think of some additional if nessesary.

The CTP Mod Lite is a little mod for accelerated start already in use in 5 PBEM games. You can find it here. No installation or modification of original files is required.

I also propose a Tournament (accually underway for PBEM and under thought for Online). Either 3 games of 4 player each, which mean that we will need three more players or 4-5 games of 2 players each or maybe both . The winners will join another couple of games and the winners again another last one for the top .

I don't know why, the source is right but vBulletin for some reason puts apolyton's web address in front of Mod Lite's web address.

        Anyway, the address is: "www.geocities.com/costas_ctp".
        Hope you like it .

          Keygen,
I've been to your homepage last week. Tons of info there . Seriously, put up something. At least a photo of Markos Giannopoulos saying that's the Devil of Internet .

Your home page is fine Keygen. Don't worry about cluttering it up like most other home pages.

I see now. I looked at the Mod Lite version, and I think it is better suited for PBEM. Accelerated starts in Internet play aren't really necessary. Even with 100 gold and 1 settler, the turns move so quickly that you don't need to worry about a jump start like you do in PBEM. Personally, I prefer using the standard 1 settler, 100 gold in internet games. Though I can see using 3 settlers and 1000 gold, as it has a tendancy to mitigate (or lessen) the effects of someone starting with very lucky terrain or ruins.

As far as my vote goes, I think we should leave this a standard (though not the rule) for CTP Internet Ratings. That is, 3 settlers and 1000 gold per civilization; and restarts permitted before 3600 B.C. (due to "VERY" bad terrain only).

If your looking for a real challenge, use an advanced starting age. Ren or Modern starts are challenging , and you avoid the problem iwith the granary/settler switch trick.Do remember to allow enogh starting gold (5,000 per settler).

Thanks Solv, I will try to find some time to "fix" it .

Quinns, the Mod meant to accelerate PBEM game indeed. It is not nessesary for me either to use an accelerated start mod but I do not have any objection on use such start if wanted . Haven't tried making mods for Online games but make one by adding some features mainly for a little faster start but keep it simple would be quite interesting.
Or even better we could use a game starter/moderator to put some gold and settler or/and something else and ensure that all players get equal starting locations.

Hm, does that mean that you accept my challenge Swissy?

                  2. All players must agree on rated status, settings, and victory conditions, before starting the game.

(To avoid confusion and disputes an email outlinning the agreement exchanged between the players? Bringing up the point of how to handle disputes? The game is put on hold until resolved?)

                  3. No bug utilization tricks will be allowed. Any player found to be using those tricks will be ejected from the CTP Internet Ratings.

(Unless each player agrees to use them in the game agreement? As we know this is the biggest setback of GL NOT informing the other player (Usually a newbie.) of it before the game starts. So I would suggest if they choose to use it it must be in the email game agreement, (Game contract))

                  5. All disputes will be adjudicated by Quinns, (unless, of course, Quinns is participating in the game in dispute, in which case an alternate judge will be chosen before beginning the game).

(I can offer my time to judge if so desired as it would seem the easiest way to view game saves is with two people replaying the game saves?)

Rating Change Table: It has been suggested that a maximum points win loss of .500 for any game. Is this to be posted in the forum here?
Also between this rating system and GL what is the difference to promote game play between newbies and high rankers? Something I think is very important, an example would be a win/loss rating promotes play with all. Are we going to have a manditory top ten play off? Monthly or quarterly just an idea. What about rated quarterly tournaments? That cleans the closet lol. As for our game it is finished lol well sort of hehehe . It would seem if the ratings system are what I have seen in emails then I am a go to sign on.

I have to say GL sucks lol ok what I mean is it is finished the way a few players have done things they have simply ruined it for all. I still see so called top players suckering newbies I am extremely vocal about it and would encourage all to do the same No wonder no one plays anymore with the patch mind you. I reloaded the game last weekend and went online with the limited servers and it was packed lol.

(something else and ensure that all players get equal starting locations.)

Equal land to start now that would be helpful, as we know land (Starting postion) can make or break a game. So much rides on the land factor so if you could come up with a mod like that you would be king

(Haven't tried making mods for Online)
The accellerated mod works fine so far online, a few kinks but fine. Yet I still use 5000 gold and 5 settlers it seems to be fast enough, 2 to 3 sittings the game is generally over.

                  Or do we?

Great comments Ice, yeh we need to keep this clean from the outset - I think there are certain players who will NOT be welcome in this ethical gameleague..

I guess all that is needed now is for people to help evolve a few tournaments and the like.... Anyone with equalised maps could help with this..... A tournament where everyone plays the same map would be pretty smart (or same map for each round)..

I think the limit of .5 point loss is essential.... I personally would also like to see points multiplied by 100 across the board, it makes much easier reading - and the difference between 2230 and 2180 seems more pronounced than 22.3 and 21.8 ..

All my matches will be henceforth rated here..... All I need now is someone to play against....say will anyone be my friend??

Quinns thanks, you have done a great job.... Just make sure you lean on a few people for help cos there are gonna be more players every day!

Thanks Gavrushka. I don't really need any help with the Internet Rating system THE WAY IT STANDS RIGHT NOW. But if we start getting more members, we really should think about starting our own site to handle this automatically. We could even include the CTP PBEM Rating system with this new site??

I agree with Gavrushka. I think the "multiplying by 100" is a good idea. The only reason I used the 18, 19, 20,... etc. point system was because I already had the programs available to rate and report in that format. In tennis, (that was what the rating system was first designed for), the difference in ratings was meaningful, in that it showed the "average" number of tennis games that the higher rated player would defeat the lower rated player per SET.

Multiplying the current rating number by 100 makes good sense to me. In this case, the modified formulas for calculating the probability of the lower rated player winning as follows:

                      Probability_Lower_Rated = 1 / ( 2 + ( HIGHER_RATED/100 - LOWER_RATED/100) ^ 2)

                      Then:

                      If higher rated player wins:

                      Change in Ratings =100 * Probability / 2

and if the lower rated player wins:

                      Change in Ratings = 100 * (1 - Probability) / 2

By examing the formulas, you can see that the maximum Change in Ratings can be no more that 50 points per game (assuming a two player game). In multiplayer games, a player can lose no more than 50 points per person that they lose to at the end of the game.

                                saturday game

                                Hi Gavrushka et al
I am available at 6pm, though I am in Thailand and this would be midnight for me. But like you i will suffer and stay awake. How do I join the internet game fraternity. I have played ctp over the net, but I get bored starting a game and then all the other competitors drop out, so rated games over the net suits me. But I have been playing a lot of ctp2 recently, wes wittakers medmod II, 'cos my ctp disc got scratched. But I bought a new one last weekend, and it is the real McCoy. Usually here in Thailand I would buy a copy, unfortunately ctp is so unpopular here that I had to buy the real thing, cost me 5pounds as opposed to the 2pounds that ctp2 copy costs. I will check this forum at 11pm Thai time, 5pm eng time, if I see no reply I will carry on playing a single player ctp2 (impossible??) medmod II game that I have started. I will probably be playing alone until 5 or 6am if i hear nothing.
I have not posted here in a while 'cos of computer probs. I used to post more on the civ2 forum, but my civ2 disc got trashed.

When I was in England 2 months ago there were many lobbies, but now I only see us and eng, is that 'cos I am here in Thailand, or have the other lobbies been discontinued?
