    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become rated? Simply post, to this thread, the highest level of victory that you ever attained, (Chieftain, Warlord, Prince, King, Emperor, or Deity), in a "single player" game of Call to Power, along with the Nation and Territory that you presently reside. That's it! You'll see your name appear on the above list within a week.
How do the ratings change? See the below CTP Ratings Links section for an in depth discussion.

** It is not required to report a game until that game is finished. You may report the progress of the game on this thread if you wish, but it is not necessary. Also, try to keep your game names below 12 characters long. Thanks.

    ----------------------------

    TENPL639_AM_I Report Legend:

NAT.TR - Nation and Territory of Primary Residence.

CTPI RATING - Starts with an initial value depending upon the highest CtP AI level ever honestly defeated: Chieftain=14; Warlord=16; Prince=17; King=18; Emperor=19; Deity=21. This rating changes by winning or losing to other rated players, while playing "rated" Internet games. See the CtP Multiplayer topic entitled "PBEM Ladders" (link above) for details on how this rating change is calculated.

    ------------------------------

    CTP Internet Rules:

    1. All desired RATED players must have a current CTP Internet Rating before starting the game.
    2. All players must agree on rated status, settings, and victory conditions, before starting the game.
    3. No bug utilization tricks will be allowed. Any player found to be using those tricks will be ejected from the CTP Internet Ratings.
    4. No "unwelcomed" harassment of players is permitted during game play. Players who violate this rule will be ejected from the CTP Internet Ratings.
    5. All disputes will be adjudicated by Quinns, (unless, of course, Quinns is participating in the game in dispute, in which case an alternate judge will be chosen before beginning the game).

    ----------------------------------

    CTP Internet Recommendations:

    1. Rated Game sessions are recommended to run between 2 and 4 hours. Continuation dates and times should be established before ending the session.
    2. Rated Games are recommended to be played at the KING difficulty level.
    3. Rated Games are recommended to be played with: 3 Settlers, 1000 Gold, Pollution On, Blood Lust Off, and No Wonders.

    -----------------------------------

Inactivity Adjustment - Players will lose 5/100ths of a ratings point (-0.05) for each month they go without a ratings adjustment, (i.e. remain inactive in the CTP Internet Ratings for an entire month).
    -------------------

Rating Change Table: - (example +2 to -2)

    DIFFERENCE.. RATING
IN RATINGS.. CHANGE (+ for winner, - for loser)
    +2.0 ........ 0.083
    +1.5 ........ 0.118
    +1.0 ........ 0.167
    +0.5 ........ 0.222
    =0.0 ........ 0.250
    -0.5 ........ 0.278
    -1.0 ........ 0.333
    -1.5 ........ 0.382
    -2.0 ........ 0.417

*** NOTICE TO ALL GAME HOSTS IN RATED INTERNET GAMES ***

Please post all of your game results to the latest CTP Ratings thread (this thread). (I don't look at all of the game threads in progress.)

Also, a reminder that all RESULTS FOR INTERNET RATED GAMES need to be posted here with:
    1. Official game name;
    2. Order of Finish of all players' APOLYTON HANDLES (no nick names please). Place players that were "unrated" in the game, in parentheses.

Notice: I, the CtP PBEM Ladder Administrator have nothing to do officially with these Internet Games ratings. Thus far, at least.
Quinns, I wish you success with this, even though I doubt you'll ever see as much of IG as PBEM.

That's great Slamp! Saturdays turn out to be a good day for world wide internet matches. If I have a match scheduled, I try to start at 7 a.m. Californian time, that's 4 p.m. French time I believe. I don't like to play any more than two or three hours max per session. The good thing about this is that you can play the first 80 turns in about 3 hours moving at a moderate pace. And our "rated" games won't put time pressure on anyone, (usually caused by impatient internet players who ALWAYS say, "Can you move faster please?", even if you are moving at less than 1 minute per turn). Internet play is 1000 times faster than PBEM play, but it is still enjoyable... in a different way. The breaks, in between game sessions, gives you time to work out a deeper strategy and do the "off board" diplomacy.

That makes three so far. We just need seven more... Come on Gavrushka, Blackice, Birdman, Franses, Darth Viper??? You all expressed interest in rating internet games (without depending upon Game League). Here is your chance!

                    Hi Zobo,

The ratings will only change when the game has completed in an internet game. So the frequency is once per game.

Quinns, I can not remember I showed interest .

The main reason for this is that we (Darth and I) are behind a firewall and we have not yet solved how to play Internet games with more than one computer (it being the server). Therefore we have to practice timesharing which generally means I can not play (It is my computer so Darth plays .

But Darth has been so friendly to grant me some time to play also. Let's hope this will work out in practice.

                          So COUNT ME IN

Thanks for breaking the news Mark G!

And I think we have 6 now. jpww, quinns, darth, franses, slamp, and zobozewarrior (i think). Just 4 more needed to set this up!!

And good luck Franses with jpww's suggestions about the firewall.
