        Turn 303 to Maestro.

The phoenician people (and their leader) are somewhat tired of this ongoing war with the spaniard. It is very costly. Furthermore, the egyptians - by a mistake, I do doubt that - did pirate a secret traderoute between a newly conquered spanish city and the phoenician mainisland.

Therefore, I am open for negotiations with El Cid (if he is still in power in Madrid) else his predator, the present leader of Spain.

Compensation accepted - sorry for the missing "not".

The spanish have accepted the phoenician peacetreaty. We hope soon to be able to restore diplomatic relations with the spanish. The spanish are allowed to establish an embassy as long as the diplomat returns to Spain or stay at the embassy. We will not issue a touristvisum yet.

The Germans were most displeased to determine a trade route was pirated last turn. We hope the international community will not tolerate such cowardly acts and assist the Germans in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

                    Turn 206 to Maesto.

2 times phoenician traderoutes were pirated, both by the spaniards.

I think it is time, that El Cid or his heir takes control of Spain again. This green government - or whatever it might be for the time, womens changes their mind from one hour to the next - is a pestilence and can not be used as a reliable part in negotiations.

The first pirateship was found. My commander has reported, that he had fired one warningshoot and one torpedo. The spanish ship didn't stop first, but now it has. The 3 phoenician wolfescardre is watching - the spanish ship is still floating, but for how long?

The second pirateship - or whatever this might be - has not been found. As this criminal act with no doubt was meant for the phoenicians and not the germans, we have from our own pocket payed a reparation price of 1000 gold to the germans - but don't push your luck dear german leader. Do not start to pirate own traderoutes with me and then blame the spanish!

In hope that the pirate-actions both were pure "accidents" we reoffer a peacetreaty to the spanish. If you also want us to release the spaish pirateship, that we have under observation, this will cost you half our payment to the germans and a public announcement, that the government condems piracy and are willing to find the criminals and pay compensations themselfes in case they do not control all parts of their territory.

                      Turn to Don

From the front page of the Madrid Herald.

El Cid’s open letter to the world:

I have been the leader of the Spanish people for many years now. While I no longer have an active role in the governance of Spain, I must now answer the question as to why it seems Spain is governed by what seems to be a “madwoman”.

Thru the years Spain has fought many wars. I bring to your attention the fact that none of these conflict has Spain fired the first shot. I have always lead Spain by the principle; you never start a war you do not intend to finish. And I never sought to put the Spanish people thru a “total war” that would entail. Others have chosen to casually enter into war, and to what end. The Canadians steadily grow stronger, while others senselessly pick fights with us.

So you ask, “Why are the Spanish the way they are?” Take a look at the map of the world. Madrid, the Spanish capitol and cradle of Spanish civilization, is located on a rather mall island. The other world civilizations started on land masses which where considerably larger. The Spanish were forced to go across the oceans to find more area to build a civilization. In time they encountered other civilizations, which for a long time they lived peacefully. I remember dragging the Phoenician people out of the dark ages with many gifts of technology. Only to have them repay our kindness with war. The Germans were even in even poorer shape than the Phoenicians, and the Spanish freely gave technology to then, now the Germans turn away offers of technology trades.

So you see why the Spaniards have become what they are now.

                        Phoenician Leader,

Thank you for your gift. Please rest assured we would not stoop to such a cowardly act as pirating one of our own trade routes. We will cooperate with you to find and hunt down the perpetrator of this attrocity.

Spanish definition of war and peace:

War is when you send troops to your enemy.
Peace is when you send stealth troops to your enemy.

Of course the Spanish don't start wars.
