    Turn 112--> Sophanthro

    Concern grows as the number of turns to catastrophe is now less than 30. This in spite of the completion today of nuclear plants in Assyria with 2 more scheduled to go online tomorrow.

    Speaking of online, we wish to communicate to the Romans that Assyria Online is only holsum family fare, and contains NO adult content. We have no association with any PERV material. However, the Freedom of Expression laws in Assyria are very clear, and they say that our government cannot stop the Welsh should they wish to, for example, focus a real-time PERV camera on those maiden's sunbathing gardens in Rome, and put it on their own website.

    Still, such matters will matter little if we wake up to find our cities undrwater. So, we call to all nations to intensify their efforts before it is too late!

      Turn 113--> Sophanthro

      As the probability of worldwide flooding grows, we need to request advice from all the nations of the world.

      Far back in the dim past, the first 5 cities of Assyria were settled by a leader who has since been forgotten by history. All of those cities still stand, but there is concern among our engineers that the city of Uruk might be standing on swamp.

      That it is surrounded by swamp is clear to us. But we are unable to tell if it was actually built on a swamp square, due to the size of the city. If it were indeed built on swamp, and should flooding come to pass, we fear that Uruk would become submerged, and countless lives would be lost.

      We know that all the great leaders of the world can see Uruk on their maps, and we ask if any of you can tell what kind of terrain it sits on. And is there any way to terraform the land upon which a city already sits? Many lives hang in the balance, so we hope there is an answer.

        Turn 114 ==> Mobius

        Fear not from Welsh PERVing, the Peaceful Environmental Reconaissance Vehicle is up and running purely to aide Welsh scientists in identifying the causes of our global environmental problem. Unless your maidens are producing greenhouse gases, or perhaps too much methane, then you have nothing to fear.

            We hope that Pollutious is right in saying that Rome is doing all it can. The world depends on her efforts.

            Bur Assyria is getting conflicting data telling us that the number ot turns before disaster is still in the 20s. We hope that this will be enough time for Rome to redouble her efforts.

              Fear not Caligula, for Scientists in Wales, using the latest methods of PERVing calculate at least 30 cycles before Mother Nature turns against us.

              Of course, we have been known to be wrong before, once or twice

                  Turn 115--> Sophanthro

                  Assyrian scientists have crunched the numbers, massaged the figures, and counted the beans, and they still get 21 turns to Noah's Ark-time.

                  However, we note with pleasure the decline in Roman pollution, and continue our own fight, with more nuclear plants going online tomorrow.

                  Even in the face of such grave news, Assyrians are still optimistic about the future, and citizens have formed an ad hoc organization to battle the blight of land darkened by ozone depletion. Already successful in Ninevah, the Assyrian Beautification Committee (ABC) has turned their eye to Uruk, where they are not only trying to reclaim blighted land, but have also begun an ambitious swamp-draining project. This was much-needed, as the mosquitos had become so bad that the women of Uruk had taken to covering themselves from head to foot at dusk. Hopefully this will soon change.

                    Turn 116 ==> Demosthenes

                    The MEI estimates agree with the Assyrian estimates of 21 turns to disaster.

                    However as I've stated before I believe the lowest estimate is correct, unless it becomes suddenly revised upward as was the case of the faulty Welsh estimate. Egypt thinks that lowest estimate is correct because we believe that it is on the eve of the players turn which will cause calamity, but it may take two to tango.

                    Regardless of which estimate is correct, estimates around the world are becoming more grevious and yet Roman pollution has remained constant in fact risen, with the exception of last turn. As is such we beg Rome to not only build improvement which will reduce pollution, but to limit her production until she can complete all of the necessary improvements.

                      Turn 116 ==> Mobius

                      The fluctuation of Roman pollution leave the Welsh baffled. One minute it is on the increase, and another it seems to be under control. Here in Wales we estimate that the time until Doomsday has remained static, and is still an estimated 30 cycles from now.

                      While we note that the amount of pollution and debris washing up on the Welsh shores has reduced considerably from the nearest Roman cities, we cannot help but see that it is now the interior production centre of the Roman Empire that is fouling it's nest.

                      Perhaps these more modern cities should take heed from those bordering Wales, who have been so proficient in cleaning up their act.

                        Roman Scientists now estimate only two turns before environmental disaster!!!

                        As to Wales' veiled references to Rome's pollution 'problem', the Imperator wishes to advise the rest of the World that every step is being taken to reduce pollution...

                        In line with Egyptian suggestions, production nationwide has been reduced - however not by much as a reduction in production has the knock on effect of lengthening the time that more anti pollution developments take to come online.

                          Turn 116--> Sophanthro

                          Well, the warnings from Egyptian scientists coupled with dire timetables predicted by Roman scientists are in fact quite disturbing. Assyrian readings give another 21 turns, but the future is apparantly unsure.

                          Whenever the disaster happens, even if Uruk is safe,at least one other Assyrian city on our northern coast was built on swamp, and is in grave danger. We call upon the Romans to use their considerable resources to build Ecotransit with all due haste, as this improvement is available to them according to our calculations. It may still not be too late to avert a disaster.

                            MEI report -- time to disaster remains constant at 21 turns, they hope that this will signal Roman estimates remaining constant as well.

                            Egypt is also glad to see that Roman pollution has continued to fall; and hopes that further steps will be taken in this direction.

                              Good news to all and sundry It appears that our efforts against pollution are having an effect. Wales now estimates 31 turns until global catastrophe. This is greater than the previous results that had shown 30 turns, and has been the cause for much beer drinking and singing across Wales.

                              We feel must congratulate the Romans on bringing their pollution under control, but until the danger is past please do not resume your previous levels of output.

                              On another note, we discreetly asked the Romans to stop tresspassing on Welsh territory. We did not want to make an issue of it, and so did not inform anyone but the Romans. But still they continue to circle above Welsh cities in their stealth planes

                              Caligula, I demand that you withdraw your troops, we do not want trouble to flare up between us again, but if you pesist in this course then we shall have to take steps that we do not really want to take.

                              __________
                              I shall be away from Monday until Friday of this coming week. I'm in the process of getting a sub, and I'll let you know by Sunday evening who that will be and where to send the turn.

                                We wish to advise our friends the Welsh that our reconaissance plane was merely acting like a smaller mobile version of the Welsh PERV system...

                                Indeed, given the tremendous intelligence gathering capabilities of PERV, we regard it as almost hypocritical that you wish to prevent us from viewing a small fraction of what you see as a matter of course - Rome wishes to remind Wales of what happened the last time you decided to take things into your own hands...

                                Rome apologises for the slight rise in pollution this turn, more and more security monitors, recycling plants, nuclear plants, fusion reactors and eco transits are being built - production has been cut. Unfortunately we cannot legislate for our burgeoning population and the attendance pollution problems that brings...

                                Unfortunately, you cannot just stop the huge momentum of the Roman Production Juggernaut overnight - Rome thanks the rest of the World for it's patience!
