      A Greek cavalry unit traveling on an arctic tundra has reported that an enounter with a hostile Barbarian has ended with one less Barbarian in the world.

        Turn 55 to St Jon ---

        I do not see the Welsh diplomat? He's coming from east of Pucara, is that right? Scouts report no sign of him. Another scouting party has been sent out to try to find him in case he got lost... or worse!

          Worry not, he cometh from the West. At last turn I was able to see your heroic knight, who has apparently saved my envoy from certain death. We are indebted.

          When your diplomats arrive on the Welsh shoreline, the wine and women will be freeflowing!!

            Turn 55 to Madrid.

            I would remind my beloved Brother Tomas that the City Radius of Rennes does not constitute any part of any neutral zone. My Phalanx is simply seeing out his retirement as a border guard and will not move beyond French lands.

              Perhaps Noble St. Jon has misunderstood which Phalanx it is that Spain is referring to...?

              Spain meant the Phalanx and settler? that had encroached the N/S neutral zone border that we had agreed to, to the W of Dijon...

              Thankfully these units appear to have moved away and we thank France for her consideration of national borders!

              As for the other Phalanx of Rennes - indeed we would be hypocritical to demand it's removal, considering that it is within the borders of your fair city...

                Turn 55 ==> Stavros

                King Quinns,

                My special envoy has now established contact with your knight on the tundra. We are not expecting an escort to Pucara, but warning of any other barbarous tribes in the area would be most graceously recieved.

                    Turn 55 to Quinns

                    Greece finds itself in a tense face-off with the French Army.

                    St. Jon, we respectfully request that you order the Pikeman in question to move backwards 2 squares, so that he is out of what will soon be a Greek city.

                    After this is done, we will be happy to sign a Peace Treaty with our French friends to assure good relations.

                      All quiet on all fronts. Thanks for killing the Barbarian animals, oh vigilant Xenophon. They understand nothing but bloodshed.

                      True Demosthenes, preparation is being made in both cities, for we know not which where you wish to locate your embassy. There are no barbarians in the region, as they are cowards and will not approach a Knight in arms, but only the defenseless.

                        Turn to Madrid.

                        'His Purity' would ask that the Honourable Xenophon of the Greeks remember that it is a mortal sin to 'bear false witness'. The current position held by a detachment of the Holy Army is within French territory and far removed from the Greek homeland. In the unlikely event of it finding itself within the City radius of a Greek City within two Turns it has been instructed to obey a request to cease trespass. It is to be hoped that when the Greek Cavalry finds itself to be in the converse position it would likewise opt for the peaceful solution. Had the sensible exchange of Maps been accepted it would have become clear to my Greek friends that whilst well outside the range of their Infantry Units, and therefore Settlers, the same is not true for France and her's. Foundation Units and Security Forces that 'really' do exist are already in situ and can rapidly be reinforced. Violence, or the veiled threat of it, will achieve nothing and whilst there remains land aplenty for all will simply waste resourses that could be used for more constructive purpose. I would point to the peaceful resolution to Franco-Spanish border disagreements as an example of how negotiation can prove far more fruitful than threats.

                          Turn 56 ==> Stavros

                          Wales would like to announce that the Snowdonia Ringroad has now been completed, linking most of the cities of Wales with a fast and efficient method of transport, flying in the face of the insurpassable Mount Snowdon.

                            Friend Breaker Morant,

                            It would seem that you accidentally overlooked our kind request that your units move from our lands and offer to send your units back to their nearest city at no extra cost...!?

                            We have made the same request again and hope that this time you will accept in the spirit of diplomacy that this is intended...

                            Spain also watches over the situation between the Greeks and the French - but fully expects that it will resolve itself as both leaders will prove their impeccable judgement once again...!

                                Turn 56 to Quinns

                                Greece does not recognize the validity of the concept of "mortal sin", finding the idea to be one of many weapons which the government of France is using to hold down their poor oppressed citizens. But we do not wish to intrude our own beliefs upon another sovereign nation, no matter how distasteful we may find them.

                                However, we do believe strongly in being honest, and ask that the nation of France behave in a similar fashion.

                                The position of our Cavalry is far from any French city, although you suggest otherwise, and has been claimed by Greece under the homesteading laws that have dictated the settlement of our world since time began; that is that the first to claim unexplored territory may settle there.

                                We have made no threat against your Pikeman, hoping instead that you will honour our reasonable request. As we have said, a settler will soon be arriving to build a city. We continue to hope that France will behave in a fair and friendly manner given this fact.

                                We agree that peaceful resolutions of border disputes are the best possible solution, and point to the successful Greco-Spanish and Greco-Inca border agreements as examples of how this can be accomplished.

                                Again, we wish to remain at peace with France, and will happily sign a peace treaty upon the successful resolution of this matter.

                                ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                                Congratulations to Demosthenes and the Welsh people for their achievement of a new highway system. We in Greece have also been busy building highways, and the completion of a major new system is imminent.
