Schedule-wise I might be free to chat over the weekend, but I'm not a fan of conducting diplomacy that way. As UnO demonstrated with Aidun, it can be a great way of getting info out of your counterpart on the spur of the moment; but it's a double-edged sword that I think I'd be liable to cut myself with. I'm not great at thinking on my feet.

I'd be happy to cover the written correspondance as best I can. If he really wants a chat, I suppose I can give him one, though I'm not sure what is to be gained there. I'm not going to give any sort of timetable to him before discussing with the team, and whatever they're willing to reveal to start with could be sent by e-mail or PM.

Also, if PLATO is willing to conduct it by e-mail, sending it to our mailing list (c4dgmerc@surveypoint.com) will probably be the fastest way to contact us, since it allows the first person on the mailing list to log on to poly and their e-mail to post it ASAP.

No problem. We are interested in aquiring a worker from you. I know that we had discussed this in the past, but we have been thinking of current ways that we could make the exchange. We would be willing to exchange a tech(once that is possible) for a worker now. Please let me know if this is a possibility.

      Thanks!

Ah, once again, the "worker sale" issue rears its ugly head.

Can someone who's good at crunching numbers spell out a scenerio where it would be in our interest to sell a worker? We're mercs. Everything is for sale at the right price, yes? What would that price be?

We need to determine this amongst ourselves before we ever speak to the Horde about it.

Taking your suggestion from the pricing thread, I have answered:

          Greetings Horde,

My apologies. I had asked someone answer this over the weekend while I was unable to access the internet, but it seems no one was able to due to the holiday weekend.

As you well know, we are learning as we go along with this concept, so we appreciate your patience and questions as they only help us perfect the concept.

We have come up with a standard to use as a guide, and this will be posted in our public thread as well:

Before any contract for the use of our units can be signed, the following must occur:

Alphabet must be known for any deal involving an exchange of tech.

Currency must be known for any deal involving the exchange of gold.

Paper must be known for any deal involving the exchange of maps.

Additionally, if a deal involves the sale of units, an OPEN BORDER (Req. Writing) agreement must first be signed with the Mercenary Team.

There are no tech or border requirements for any deals involving the exchange of information/intelligence.
As such, we will not be engaging in trades for items that are not tradable in game at that time. In other words, one of us needs to be able to trade tech in order for us to agree to an exchange of such. There will be no loans for payment when it becomes possible. This protects both sides from potential abuse.

            From Paddy the Scot:

For those of you who don't know your Monty Python, this is a reference to a toll. I'm pretty sure this means they've attacked.

Does this mean they want something in exchange for not razing Foxtrot?

                Good point, could be.

Not very clear though, and I'm not sure what we would be capable of giving them at this point. We can't even trade techs for some time more. The only thing I could imagine would be a C3CDG-style vassalization pact.

And they can shove that up their ass.

I'll compose a message tomorrow, don't have time right now. They owe us the cost of an axe, and will owe more if they continue.

That's perfect. Send them a bill for damages.

                        In aid of the message:

How to say how they would compensate us for the cost of an axe is difficult. Let's start with hammers.

Axe costs 35 hammers; that's simple. We could say it's worth 35 gold, or quite possibly more depending on how we value hammers.

The settler for Foxtrot cost 100, and the city itself has already generated 9 hammers (ignoring the 1 food per turn; and commerce is a wash, as it pulls in 2 but costs 2 in maintenance). So 109 hammers for what has already been spent & gained from it. And that's not counting the future production of the city that will be wasted if the city is razed. The consequences of us losing Foxtrot cascade, because while we stop "losing" hammers from it once it is re-founded, that delays the benefits from other cities we want to be founding, or the gains from the worker we'd want to build but instead have to build another settler before, etc. The bill should Foxtrot be destroyed is really as high as we want to set it. At least, say, 125 hammers would not be an unreasonable estimate for the damage from Foxtrot's loss.

Our pricing thread lists H*2 for the gold cost of purchasing units. I was just going to go with that.

                              Received from Paddy via e-mail:

                              Hi Kloreep

I sent you a PM the other day

                              something like:

                              we want a shrubbery

                              nee

that was supposed to be followed up by one of our lads with a full detailed account of the battle and that we at war etc - he is on holidays now

basically we attacked you with the 3 archers

your valiant axeman killed two of them before secumming to the 3rd

                              --------------------------

hope all is well with you and yours, and that you all enjoy a great Christmas

                              Paddy
Nice of them to inform us, though the combat log does tell us what happened.

                                Proposed letter:

                                Dear Horde,

Your troops have violated our borders and have killed a troop of our axemen. This violation of our neutrality will not go unnoticed. If you wish to conduct any further business with Team Mercenary, restitution must be made to the greiving families of the slain. Cost of one axeman is 70 gold according to our standard pricing format.

Remove your forces and agree to make this payment through either tech points or gold when these options become available, and we will consider this business closed.

Keep in mind that should you continue hostilities, this bill will naturally rise exponentially, and we will be free to exact payment through whatever means we deem fit.

We look forward to a swift resolution.
