Our last long email asked their eta for calendar, so hopefully when he replies we should get that information. I think he said he was going for feudalism next, but it's probably best to wait a while before asking for an eta on the tech after calendar.

emailed received:
Team Realms,
Sorry for neglecting to respond to your last email. I'll make this brief, but please let me know if you have any questions.
1. Team Banana accepts the terms of the NAP.
2. We are now working on Calendar, and will discover it in 5 turns. We would be delighted to trade it for Construction once we are able.
3. PAL has discovered Philo and is now working on Paper.
4. Good luck with Imperio. On the surface, it sure sounds like you need to sleep with one eye open.
5. Thanks for your assistance with the maintenance numbers. It will help me decide our next move.
I'll check past emails soon to make sure that I haven't missed anything. In the meantime please don't hesitate to contact us if you need anything.
Regards,
Donovan

His tech rate is a bit slow, but it's not far from where we were pre-academy. I think we should:
- Give Construction up front (no harm to us, bridges always useful),
- Encourage him to settle ASAP to develop his cities before the NAP with PAL expires,
- Ask about his GPP situation (stress how much a capital Academy helped us),
- Offer help on micro.
He missed our offer to help him meet Imperio, but I realise that this is a Good Thing: we don't want him to trade Machinery for Feudalism, as we'd very much like him to research the latter!

How about we ask Banana if he wants to go for a mini-research triangle with templars. We'd supply construction, banana calendar and templars drama?
Suggested email, should probably be sent this turn if agreed and then send an email to templar and cced to banana:
Team Banana,
Thankyou for the information in your last email. We have a suggestion to form a mini research triangle with Templars. We'd supply construction, yourselves calendar and we'd ask templars to supply drama. A quick reply would be appreciated because we believe templars will be ready to start a new tech soon. We haven't contacted them yet so we haven't told them you are researching calendar.

I also like the idea. Let me suggest another addition for a message to Banana: we propose trading them Horseback Riding for Compass right now, with the beaker deficit we owe them to be made up by trading them Engineering for Feudalism later on. That also helps both sides out; they get a military tech immediately, and we build up more goodwill with Banana, plus knock out another mandatory tech... and eliminate the possibility for Imperio to trade Banana HBR later on, should they meet up.

On a seperate point: we would be interested in taking compass off your hands for horseback riding. We propose making up the beaker difference later on in a feudalism for engineering trade.

If we offered him GS3 if he happened to pop a GE next, would that be worthwhile to us?
Obviously there would be lots of details to work out, timings, delivery methods, etc. but it is an option if we want to help bolster his position.

Ban: What made you drop 13 points within this turn?
RB: we whipped a city
Ban: Never seen that b4
While I am most pleased that the trade went through, I had a lot more confidence in Banana before they posted that exchange! Are they watching PAL on CivStats... like, at all?

I initially thought the same, but I think he was shocked by the size of the drop, not the drop itself. When I said "score was linked to population" I thought he didn't understand this. But when he said "we must not be as populous" then I think he thought I meant that the size of the score drop is proportional to the total population, which is not true. I guess he wanted us to confirm the 3-pop whip, where most of the drops he has been watching were probably 1 or 2 pop whips.
