you learn so much playing these demo games ... Sullla not knowing the whip maths, various people not knowing lion movement, etc

My instincts say no, but then again, I've never really been great with the whipping math. What's the cost/benefit analysis for whipping versus finishing the settler normally? With no granary, and only 4 food/turn surplus, I don't think it's a good trade in this situation, IMO. Lots of hills usually means grow to happy cap ASAP, then work them for quick military/workers/settlers.
Yeah...I did a little .xls analysis and it isn't really that close without a Granary.
You guys are all thinking in terms of the Defense! scenario, where lions do move two tiles/turn. Of course, that scenario also has lethal bombardment and monster tanks.
And I never said I don't know the whipping math, just that I wasn't good with the whipping math.
Unusually, with a day still left on the timer, I'm the last to play. I was online at the same time as the Templars, I said hi to them in the in-game chat but no reply.
At the capital I switch back to our warrior. I notice there are 2 quechuas around our capital; I move Jennifer 1N back towards the capital just in case. Gogo heads into the woods near the other quechua to escape the lion. The lion was on the dessert hill I wanted to go to but no biggie.
Sharon meanwhile found the Mayan capital! It seems to have floodplains - kuh.
The game says Sharon still needed healing but she was on 1.0/1 health to I moved her. She is due a promotion - the options are combat 1, guerilla 1 and woodsman 1. Maybe combat in the hope of getting her medic?
Tracy headed north up the coast but I'm thinking about sending her back south again and let Sharon scout the area around the incan capital. We are in the north, the templars are in the tropical area (hence the jungle) so theoretically there should be a fair bit of land to the south of the templars.
Four floodplains and gold at the start for one of our rivals. My respect for the map creator just fell even lower (and I didn't think that was possible...)
Looks like our continent is quite small. That makes securing the south even more important; if we can encourage the Templars to expand east and north instead of west, we will squeeze them up against Imperio. That would be a good thing indeed.
Oh, and since we know Imperio has a worker, and haven't seen any improved tiles as yet, they likely have even more resources hidden in the fog around their capital.
@ soooo:
I am in favor of diverting Tracy south west and further south.
We know Imperio has an all land start so Sharon can most likely walk around their territory back to where Tracy is now.
Gogo should be kept safe at all cost. Let the Quecha fight the lion.
There is only limited time on the clock.
If noone checks in in the next hours, I will move the units and finish our turn.
@ Sullla:
Keep in mind that Imperio moved there settler on the first turn.
So in theory they could have moved three tiles before settling.
On the other hand, they probably just moved off the river. ;-)
From what I can see, Imperio only work one flood plain. Don't know about the gold.
They have one worker and started with Mining. Then they went for Bronze Working. They already have another tech which is either Hunting or Animal Husbandry, so I guess their worker has plenty to do, if he could be bothered with the gold mine yet.
Turn 32 played. Our scouts are using their newfound knowledge of how fast lions can move.
Not much to report, no real decisions to make.
The Wheel in 1, settler in 6. I think our worker will want to be roading in the short term, which makes pottery less of a priority. My vote for next tech is archery. After that pottery probably. Other opinions?

Given how cramped the continent is, and our tragic lack of strategic resources, I think Archery is a no brainer.
I would still prefer to do pottery first and get at least one cottage going. With commerce resources so easily accessible to our rivals, we'll have to get an early start on cottages to compensate. We'll just have to hope that Templars don't call our bluff and Imperio are too disorganized to be effective. (We should switch to Slavery while Settler is in transit to both have an option of whipping, and show that we have some military techs.)
I agree with Zeviz here. Given our comparably weak start, I think a bit of a gambit is in order to have a chance later on. Right now it doesn't look like we're getting attacked anytime soon.
