  • 1495 domination victory with an extra leader yet to be used. I did not reload at all or play more than once. In my mind both of those things would clearly have been cheating. I assumed there was an honor code and that this was obvious. Reloading? Come on, that's so lame. I can't believe I'm the only civ vet around here who thinks that...

      • I am having a peculiar problem. I have a leader, it is my city, but I can't use it to build an army or spped up production or anything. What am I doing wrong?

excuse me? i'll let that pass, because obviously reading all the posts in this thread is a little too time consuming, but you're view is shared by many many others. Including myself

thankfully those that did resort to save/reload to play (and I don't think they did it to get the best score, it's prolly just there own habit of playing civ) clearly stated so. However those that don't, well that's another story...

Haha, everyone who submitted a histographic victory is a winner in the "histographic: by year" category! (if anyone did)

            • Boy was I glad to here MarkG would accept late games. I've been down with the flu and two infections the couple of days and when I can't play civ(!)...THEN I'm ILL!!

Anyways. I guess my plan was total annihilation or something but to speed things up I've used the past few rounds to mass-produce settlers to get a dominition victory. 1335AD and 4k-something points.

The savegame is a bit complicated though since I captured some cities in the last round. If you wanna check the save out, just attack with all units already "poised" to attack e.g. those on the border of an enemy city. I checked twice and it works.

                  • Wow, nice score Tilemacho! That must be close to maxed for a space race victory.

                    • Uhhhh... Maybe I missed some amazing discovery about the game in the last days... But HTF did you get a 214 size city?

                      • I was guessing he meant 213,xxx population, a size 213 city would need some serious terrain modifications in the rules.

                        • Check the savegame... The size of Babylon is 214.

                          • Haha, reminds me of how my brother used to like to play Civ 2. Make tundra give obscene amounts of food/shields/trade, and then build his bi-polar empire. The AI wouldn't ever use the tundra in any case, so it made for laughably easy games. I think some of his cities would max at 255... but obviously not a valid strat for tournaments!

This space is empty... or is it?

                              • Ok here I am…
First some info about my game: I guess I was among the lucky ones because I in the first two huts I got a settler and barbarians who made my warrior elite.
My general tactic since civ2 is to eliminate the first civ I meet and then play peacefully trying to get as most advanced as possible and deal with the other civs only after getting real good units. So I conquered China. I also got a Leader at that time but I didn’t use him correctly (I waited until Chivalry to build an army but I think armies are almost useless compared to the possibility of a free wonder in ancient times…I only got Pyramids at that time) After that I maxed culture and adsorbed 2-3 Persian cities until 500 ad when the Egyptians declared war on me. Conquering the Egyptians got me a second Leader whom I correctly used to rush the Forbidden palace.
Unfortunately having played only 2 games so far I didn’t know much about culture and domination victory neither had I realized the scoring system very well until I read Out4blood’s post…stupid me…:angry
Immediately thereafter I stopped any of my culture improvements(I also destroyed some to prevent the 100K victory..) built a massive army and invaded everyone as soon as possible. I think about 1400 ad I finished the war.
After that I concentrated in maximizing score: Built many cities close to each other until my land was 156.000 km2. Most of the cities only had marketplace (which gives 12 happy citizens if you have all luxuries), aqueduct, hospital and mass transit later.

*…actually the real population of my country was 220 millions and Babylons size 31 until last turn when I used all my slave workers to add to Babylons size…..I only did this to see how many workers I had but turned out to be pretty impressive…

I think that if I had use the right tactic from the beginning (conquering and rush buying units under Despotism) I could get a score close to 10k…And if domination and culture victory conditions were excluded I am sure I could get a score much bigger than 10.000………. That means that builders can get a better score than conquers if domination and culture victories are excluded....

About civ3: I must say that I am a little bit disappointed. I expected much more. Especially in the combat system having play CTP and CTP2 where you can stack 12 units to fight all together I think CIV3 is a drawback. Also I believe city radius should be able to expand more than just 2 tiles, at least 3. Finally I think that the game could and should have more new ideas than just culture and resources

BTW i think the scoring system sucks. Takes into acount only citizens and land area......I had 31 future techs and got 12 points??? Even if I got 300 points I would consider it few.....
I suggest in futer game to change this
