That's the whole point MZ. You are flaming everyone on GS regarding things said by individuals on GS. It's not better than making individual remarks, it's worse.

When you are talking politcs or about world new and no matter your ideology you say "I hate [insert either USA or France]" does that mean you have the individuals of those countries? Nope. It is simply that you hate the decisions or foreign policy of those nations not their citizens down to the last man.

Same with the teams and the best example is Roleplay. After last week's uber-flame fest, every night we still hang out at the ISDG channel, me, Togas, BigFree, WB, Arnelos, etc. continue to flame each other, then laugh about it, then play some PBEMs then laugh again at the world around us like we've done for the last months. None of them have felt offended at the things I've said to them both here in the forums or in the chat, and I for one have not felt offended at all at the things they've said to me or my team.

I'm sorry to see some of you take this so seriously. It really isn't. Camaraderie goes waaay beyond feeling offended by things said over a silly game on decisions taken as a team, not as individuals. Until you realize that, I'm afraid every remark no matter how civilized it is, will do wonders to hurt your egos when the intent was never that.

You are assuming that everyone should behave as you do, based on your knowledge and experiences. That is expecting a bit much, is it not?

I am fine with others' poking sticks in eyes, for fun and even profit.

But I won't do it, myself.

Trash-talk humor? All day long. But I will say, I have my own sense of honor, and I stand by it and the equal commitment by my team and teammates... the insults have been, uh, disturbing, even though I *think* I understand their whys and wherefores.

I respect MZ and GF totally... but please know, although the purposeful irritation WORKS, all I'm going to do is play the actual game, to the best of my / our ability. Thus, all that is left is irritation, and that is no fun.

So lay off a bit, por favor...

I simply expect you to understand I have not once insulted anybody in person, in fact, not even came close to, in fact, I've hardly mentioned people by name.

Our team has received it's fair share of flames by GS and RP too and I don't see anyone complaining. For the simple reason we know it's just a game and things said between teams has absolutely nothing to do with the way we get along as people. Why some of you people get upset over something relating to a silly game is truly and utterly beyond me.

I have said what I felt, I have countered in a civilized way posts which have been directed at me in a civilized manner (i.e. Nathan's posts for example), and have answered jokingly to posts made jokingly too. But our attempt at making this some sort of pre-wrestling match flame-fest has apparently hurt some of the more sensitive types out there.

It is pointless to continue debating as each side belives itself to be morally correct and that will never change. The neutral parties have probably made their own decision on who to believe by now so it's even more pointless to keep on going.

Once again, I repeat for the 4th time I have nothing against GS members, some of you like Shiber, Theseus, Arrian, nye, etc. are great people who I respect a lot and consider them among the highest tier of people dear to me in this community. I am sorry to say that if you continue to think that all we've said was with the intent of hurting the people in the team, that is just not true.

I understand and appreciate this, MZ. However, I know you from elsewhere, and I am perhaps used to the jostle of more rambuncious fora than some of the forums on Poly.

Nevertheless, some of the comments from GoW could not have elicited the response you got better than if you tried to. That is just the nature of some of the individuals.

I wonder what would happen if we issued a manifesto which called into question the abilities in combat of the entire team of GoW, or slagged the civ building style of Lego. I would imagine there would be a very... ermmm... warm response to it. There should be anyway, because it would be deliberately expounding a falsehood about a matter close to the hearts of the targets.

People who do such things are known as trolls. It is considered funny sometimes that people respond to trolls the way they do. It can be even funnier when the troll expresses disbelief at his or her success with the hook. But to suggest that the results of trolling are the fault of the trolled, is to put the human behaviour cart before the emotional horse, is it not?

But the thing is that trolling is for the most part senseless and without anything to prove. We're playing a game which is ultimately a competition and everyone considers their team the most able / moral / honorable / righteous / sexy / etc. etc. etc. hence there is the inevitable conflict of interests when another team claims to be more in public.

However, this being a game, where winning or losing really does not amount to much in RL terms and does not make us better or worse persons for it, I see no fault in the occasional flame-fest just for the fun of it. If we are to roleplay things like we do, can we not roleplay the anger or frustrations some of us feel at other teams? I can totally despise a team yet still be great friends with them, such as what happened with RP were probably half of all my Poly friends are. And nye can prove himself how people so totally opposite in interests like Togas, and myself, can actually work together splendidly in the foreign affairs of the ISDG.

Why could this not happen with GS?
