Your ISP isn't blocking any ports that PTW is using, is it.
I have this problem often with (a lot of ) MP games, which is
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus
There are web utilities (click on port scan) that can tell you if certain ports are blocked by your ISP. When PtW first came out there were a few people who found out they were screwed in this way.
Has anyone else, since installing the patch, had problems with paratroopers? During some battles, they disappear, except for their helmets. Also, sometimes the fighting animation doesn't run during battles.

I have one problem with the patch. After installing the patch and inserting the CD to play, the little CD arrow icon just keeps spinning, never opening the CD!! I uninstalled the patch with no change. Re-installed it and no change. Right now I can't open the PTW CD!!! I tried a different game CD (Unreal II) and had NO problems. Haven't resolved the problem yet, but my next step will be to uninstall all patches and entire game and re-install. That is if I can ever open the CD again!!!
Its a copy protection issue. Infogreed changed copy protection from CIV3 (safedisk) to PtW (secUrom) and lots of people have had this problem with PtW (at one time or another).
I think the problem is more common in CD-R and CD-RW drives. So if you have a CD-ROM re-install with that drive (I think thats what fixed it for me).
Undocumented Differences in PTW 1.21f I have noticed
Continuous bombard works. At least with naval units adjacent to enemy ground units. I have modern naval unit Blitz enabled (with just 1 RoF), and they are no longer disabled from continous bombard -- even Destroyers.
The AI will move Artillery out of their cities to bombard naval units.
I also have the same problem with the copy protrection. I had to uninstall Civ PTW, then delete the directory in order to get the game working with older patches. I have tried the CD in both my HP cd-rw & my ACER DVD-Rom. Could it be IDE drivers?
& ANYWAY why is infogrames trying to loose its customers so badly? I have stopped buying any of their games after PTW since I can easely find a no-cd patch for any of their pirated games & since they don't reply to support emails.

True, I have not contacted Infogrames by phone.
But in my opinion it would not make sense to make a 30$ long distance call for a 40$ game that doesn't work that well in the first place... Right?... RIGHT??? Ok then. Now you can stop being a wise ass & shut up.
Should'nt we be able to use E-Mail to communicate nowa days?(hmmm... it seems that Infogrames Email server is running on the same engine as PTW...)

thank you.
hi ,
who are you calling a wise ass , ..... and who should shut up ?
oh yeah , in the back of the manual there is a list of several infogrames helpdesks ( both phone and email ) , sometimes one helpdesk gives help and the other not , .....
That's what happens when you writes posts late @ night when you can barely keep your head up. Sorry. I'll try those... but I'm not too optimistic about my chances.
