Ah, got it. Well, as for me, I realize that Civ3 did have major problems on release... but since they were fixed in a pretty timely manner, I don't really care; I'm pretty happy with Firaxis. I will wait, however, for opinions to improve among owners of PTW before I buy it.

      Uh...
Well, it all depends on what you call a problem
The game-killer bugs were fixed in two months (which is already quite long for a patch).
The blatant lacks were fixed more than six months later (like a decent editor), or even one year later in a PAYING patch (like MP). And they still have much to do to be considered fully patched.

Anyway, I still consider totally inacceptable to release a game that is not FULLY finished. It's a total lack of respect for the consumer.
Especially from people that blame others for pirating software...

Good plan. We do not need more unwilling beta testers.

Then you should be howling about MicroSoft and every other major developer, yes?

I never buy software brand new, so that might be it.

There were no blatant lacks in Civ3. What you are talking about are certain features that were not originally intended for the game, but Firaxis decided belonged anyway because of player feedback. Perhaps you thought later changes were vital, but most of the editor things were not vital to game function like, say, fixing air superiority was.

IMO, they have nothing left to do. It's a finished game.
