Here's what I posted in the Civilizations forum
Alright, we have to remember Firaxis is going to try to keep sort of a balance in terms of cultural regions (mediterranean, Asian, Middle East, American, european)
I have also come to the realization that the civ picture can be broken down in to three brackets
Shoe-Ins
-------------------------------
1. Mongols (asia)
2. Spain (europe)
3. Inca (America)
4. Carthage (mediterranean)
5. Vikings (europe)
From here on out, three further civs will appear in the game
Contenders
-------------------------------
Arabs
Hebrews
Ethiopians
Turks
Koreans
On the outside, looking in
-------------------------------
Polynesians
Nubians
Celts
Dutch
Maya
Cherokee/Sioux
I think the Turks are the most interesting wildcard in all of this. In that, they are very unlikely to be included if the Arabs are included, since I think it is more likely Firaxis will group the turks under the Arab umbrella than the Arabs under the Turkish umbrella. However, they are the once civ that can justifiably considered part of two different culture groups. But in any scenario that they do get in the game, it would almost have to be one where the Arabs are out.
An interesting dark horse in all of this could be Nubia. All it would take is for Firaxis to deciede to that they would be a better African civ to add than Ethiopia/Axum and they are very likely to make it in. Interestingly, Nubia did make it in to the recent Rise of Nations roster. Darkhorse civs Khmer and Polynesia are in a similar situation, however I think Korea is on more stable ground than it's Ethiopian couterpart.
With that said, I'm going to go on the record with an 8 civ prediction for the first time in this thread. I say it will be the 5 shoe-ins, plus
6. Arabs (middle east)
7. Korea (asia)
8. Ethiopians/Aksumites (middle east)http://monkspider.blogspot.com/

Good UU's Might be...
Spanish: Conquistador
Vikings: Longship (that would suck for anyone wanting to play as the vikings)
Celts: probaly some upgraded warrior
These civs could be same as AOE II Mongols Korea Arabs
Poblem is what would therse civs get: Polish Inca Ethiopia
Inca Hebrews

Urr how about this?
Why does all the Civs have to be existing civilisations? why can't the player Name his own civ, choose the troop they want the UU for and the era they want the Golden age for, that would be far more player friendly and more Unique in the game
Oh and PS. Microsoft XP is Microsoft ExpansionNumb Nuts, so the XP is not exclusive Pah!

Why do you write that this makes Windows want to puke? Or are you so retarded that you don't know that "me" is Windows Millenium Edition? If you cut off my head, what do I say:
Me and my body or me and my head?

I dont see why people keep on making a big deal about XP ( Expansion Pack ) having the same initials as XP ( Windows XP). People have used XP as expansion pack before microsoft used it for its product. Following the logic of some I cant say ME andymore ( Cause of Windows ME) , I cant make reference to the years 98 or 95 anymore ( Windows 95 98) either. Nor can I ever say SE ( Second edition , since there was a Windows 98 SE ). Quit your whining some people are confused by the use of the letter XP at first , but then then they are informed of our usage of the letters XP.
Im sorry back to the reason I was responding. Dom Pedro where are these horses for the Sioux horsemen going to come from? if you go by Marlas World map theres no horses in the americas, and the AI cant seem to trade with Europe for a few thousand years into the game.

If I am optimistic, but somewhat realistic I would have to say:
Definitely
1. Spanish
2. Vikings
3. Mongols
4. Inca
Most likely
5. Phoenicians
6. Koreans
7. Turks
8. Ethiopians
Other possibilities are the Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch, Malians, Huns, and Khmer.
Personally, I would like to see:
1. Spanish
2. Vikings
3. Mongols
4. Koreans
5. Turks
6. Dutch
7. Portuguese
8. Khmer
But that's just me."I've spent more time posting than playing."

Well, I see most people have said Carthaginians as a possibility, which leads me to believe that IF Firaxis does include it, there will be some sort of Elephant unique unit since Hannibal was the guy who took the elephants across the Alps. If that does happen, there will be TWO Elephant units in the game, which begs the question then: will the programmers feel the need to make an Elephant tile resource that will be required to build those units?
BTW, I'm liking alot of the responses I've got so far... I'm glad to see the thread's been a bit of a success.Dom Pedro II - 2nd and last Emperor of the Empire of Brazil (1831 - 1889).
I truly believe that America is the world's second chance. I only hope we get a third...

I'm surprised that with all the uproar over which civs made it into the original game, there haven't been more oddball candidates thrown in. Interesting candidates to fill gaps in the map placement (the expansion WILL have set starting locations, right? Right?) might be the Inuit, an Australian aborigine civ, or possibly one of the West African empires such as Ghana or Mali. The Sioux might also fit into this category as well.
Of course, if any civs like these were put in, there would be another wave of ranting about the civ selection, which would be almost as fun as the fact itself of having civs to fill these holes on the world map.

Why would anyone want the Sioux when half of the people already think the Iroquois were unnecessary? There's no more room for space fillers. They'll probably add one South American (Inca) and one African (Ethiopians) space filler, but there are so many far more deserving ones that are on the edge like the Turks, Koreans, Portuguese, and Dutch."I've spent more time posting than playing."
