    I would win that bet

There is a bug with the discovery of magnetism (now playing 1.14 but the game was started with 1.07) you can build Drigates. The typo causes the game to crash when you build a drigate.

I've looked through the PediaIcons.txt and the 1.14 bix and I cant find the same error so it must have been in the v1.07 from where we started the game.

I think we can hack around this by changing the PediaIcons from Frigate to Drigate any thoughts.

Firaxis, I'm gonna start charging $100/hr for fixing this game for you.

Heres a fix for the problem we found drigate crash look at page 21.

If you dont feel ready for a little cut and paste hack then you can download the two PediaIcon files on page 22.

      Here's the fix itself

Needless to say, back up these files before trying this

I'm assuming you've done a standard install for file locations

      Look in C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\CIV3PTW\Text

Yes wordpad is fine as a text editor. Find the following text

      #ICON_PRTO_Frigate
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatelarge.pcx
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatesmall.pcx

      and change to

      #ICON_PRTO_Drigate
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatelarge.pcx
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatesmall.pcx
      #ICON_PRTO_Frigate
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatelarge.pcx
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatesmall.pcx

      Further down find

      #ANIMNAME_PRTO_Frigate
      Frigate

      Change to

      #ANIMNAME_PRTO_Drigate
      Frigate
      #ANIMNAME_PRTO_Frigate
      Frigate

The PediaIcons may need to be changed in this file (I didnt test if it was required but it doesnt crash if you do make the change)

      C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Text

      #ICON_PRTO_Frigate
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatelarge.pcx
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatesmall.pcx

      Change to

      #ICON_PRTO_Drigate
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatelarge.pcx
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatesmall.pcx
      #ICON_PRTO_Frigate
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatelarge.pcx
      art\civilopedia\icons\units\31frigatesmall.pcx

This allows both drigates and frigates to be built without crashes

Edited the first post to include information and solution about the 'expiring peace treaty crash' that occured in atleast PtWDG and Pandora PBEMs.
Just in case anyone else experiences the same problem, so the help can be found.

We've now had a trade/diplomacy bug that has ended our game (unless Firaxis does something about it) now at 1640AD after 6 mo of play.

The link is in my sig

I've played a game that went to around 1400 AD and died in the trade/diplomacy area.

At first, if I tried to look at "active" trades w/the other human it crashed. Then maybe 5 or 6 turns later, it would just always crash after briefly popping up the diplomacy screen.

This was only a human-to-human problem, never human-to-AI.

And it was a very tight game which made it that much worse.

I guess I found one bug (exploit).
In one of my games by e-mail I'm the last one. Giving a Go order moves the unit moves once and at the end of the turn (after you hit the space) once again - two moves for one turn.

              Did some notice this?

Yes, I am the last in the "Large PBEM" and I saw this phenomenon. It doesn't move twice in the same turn, though, but in the "do automatic moves" phase of the next turn. It has no move points left for the next turn.

You can, however, exploit it to rush a defender into a city.

Only 9 months since you reported this game breaking bug? Infotari must have a great file keeping system.

Did you give them the specifics of how it happens? I'll report it again anyways. Maybe breakaway gave someone a clue since then.
