Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
It is quite hilarious that "the first Apolyton PbEM-game" will be only the 10th or 20th PBEM game, don't you think ?
*still waiting for PtW ...

Perhaps even later the way it's going. Doesn't sound official?

how's your experience with pbem so far Buster?
You are allready involved in some are you not? any practical advice you can share??

I'm starting one tonight, so I will let you know how it goes. We're having a kick off session for two hours, so it remains to be seen how many rounds we will get done.
I have tried a hotseat game. The first time I tried to load the game after saving, it decided it was a one player game. I haven't had that problem since the first time.
Diplomacy is kind of wierd, since you can't send in game messages as far as I know. In that hotseat game I was trying to stay away from just talking about it on the side. Shouldn't be a problem in PBEM, since we all have email.

Well, the "kick off session" was fun, but far from what I hoped.
Two issues:
One: Not having an automated save and mail function in game is EXTREMELY frustrating when trying to get in as many rounds as possible in a short period of time. We almost got four turns in in TWO HOURS!!! Now part of this was internet traffic last night, but the other part is...
Two: Why can't you just load the game directly and have the game realize it's a multiplayer game? Most times it can handle this, but three seperate times last night the game decided that the current player was the only player, requiring that you quit the game and load through the multiplayer menu. Probably not as big of a deal normally, but with a time crunch it's frustrating. Why can't the program recognize the game type for what it is consistently?
Oh well, I hope my players don't bail, and this game will continue. I made the map small enough that there was contact in the third round...
I suppose we'll get fixes to some of this stuff in a patch...

Pretty easy with email, and fun to dress up your greeting to the other player...
What was funny was when I sent the English an email and the text of it was:
"What would you offer me for Mysticism?"
I've been playing this game too long.............
I almost expected:
"Well, you're known as a tough negotiator, Hiawatha, but I think you've met your match with me..."

Thanks for the info, Buster. Maybe you should post these issues in the PtW forum's "Bug Report" thread.

So, from the original players, who has PtW already?

I dont have any experience with PBEM, but I'm looking forward to join some games ASAP. What I dont understand is why its so complex to start a PBEM game. From what I can see we all have to be online at the same time in order to include everyone in the game. Does this make sense to anyone? Wouldnt it be easier for the setup to be done offline by one player (since email etc is not automatic)? Or am I missing something?
Well so far as I can tell, the only way to get to a PBEM choice for a game is to be in MP and therefore online. In order to include other players they have to join the MP game that you are hosting (for example). Then as the host you can choose PBEM instead of MP.
I'm hoping someone will come along and say "you forgot to activate the ..... switch in preferences" (or something).
Start CIV3X
choose multiplayer
Once in the setup/chat room you click on the location button so that you're accessing local rather than internet games. Thats the key element thats missing from the manual. I think Ubers comment was that it didnt work with the gamespy browser.
Then click host game
select PBEM game type
Fill in the opponents names civs etc
start game
Once you complete your turn it says to save and exit
then you manually email the game to the 2nd person.
