    • i'm sorry i didn't start it yesterday. because of poly's maintenance work, i didn't know redboy's email-address.

i hope to find some time tonight (first move no moves, only japan can use it)

            • ok, here's my idea.

now playing 3 games, of which 2 are in the beginning phase with just 1 city and virtually nothing to do per turn, and the 3rd game one being a nice multi-city game, i was thinking of following:

EVERYONE starts with 4 settlers. you can chose if you pan out and found cities or if you want to imediately add the settlers to 1 or 2 cities.

i was also thinking of making the game neutral by making all civs trait-less (or all have all traits (to be discussed)) and giving everyone all base level techs.

if fact, imho, we could even start in the medieval ages.

my main aim is to skip the "boring" first turns and immediately get into the build phase.

what do you people think about it?

              • i think that for pbem, you have to be patient, and wait a few weeks (months?) for the games to get busy

conquest pbem sort of achieves what you want though.

have you played the mesopotamia one? you start with several settlers in that...

                • well, most conquest PBEM (ww2, ror, for, med, etc) have the problem, that you know exactly who has what units in the beginning.

and to be honest... i'm not too fond of victory point wins (nor do i really like wonder victories)

however, i havn't tried the mesopotamia one... that could be interesting. but are the starting locations more or less equal? i'll check it out.

but just in general: would you people be interested in something similar as my above proposal?

i checked out the mesopotamia scenario. it's definetly different than the epic game, and could be fun.
                      but:
                      - you start with only 2 settlers
                      - starting positions like greece and egypt really suck...
                      - tech tree doesn't even come close to the more interesting part

i think that for pbem, you have to be patient, and wait a few weeks (months?) for the games to get busy
yeah... and if we just want to skip the first two months and directly enter the fun part?

so, would anyone of you be in such a game (details can be changed of course), or more likely not?

I didn't think Egypt was that bad if you consider the agricultural bonus for deserts.

                              • you could start thinking about it already now
we could wait a bit for the start.
