epic game PBEM with multi-turn-sessions

To be honest, I prefer to play out the 'slow boring' parts building up to the action. I'd like to start an 'extreme diplomacy' four-person game. But again, there's stuff in the tournament I haven't covered or updated yet, and it looks like game B needs a bump start or something, I just don't have the time right now...Enjoy Slurm - it's highly addictive!

so far it looks quite good with the multi-settler start. chrisiusmaximus, sabrewolf, redboy and jshelr are interested.
the question is: can you play the times written in the first post? if not, i'm worried that this will be another PBEM with an average of less than a turn per day
edit: in approx. 2 weeks, when the tournament is set and running, we can look for the next possible PBEM, this time with rommel, who's been waiting for a long time...
but to be honest, i feel bad setting up all the games (not because of the work, but because of the "thread starter = sabrewolf" everywhere .
so please please please... ANYONE... set up a PBEM with me as a guestLast edited by sabrewolf; April 29, 2004, 15:38.- Artificial Intelligence usually beats real stupidity

multi-settler-medieval start
here are my thoughts for the new game:
regular epic rules, except:
- we start with 4-6 settlers (depending on world size) and a few workers
- all ancient techs known to everybody (so medieval start)
- highish difficulty level (the AI can't outREX you anymore because we start with lots of settlers)
these modficiations changes several things about the gameplay:
1) early UUs are outdated from the beginning ==> can by solved by chosing civs or disabling ancient ones
2) traits are weakened, eg.:
--- scientific won't get the free tech at the beginning of the medieval ages, ~12 chances less to get an SGL
--- expansionist won't get any free techs from huts, popping cities from huts doesn't make so much difference anymore
--- seafaring, units are faster anyway, everyone builds galleys from beginning
- agricultural is strengthend (monarchy&republic available from the beginning, so 3 food from the beginning on), BUT also weakened (REXing less important)
imho the other traits aren't affected that much.
==> remove all traits or give everyone all... i favour the last
currently i'd set up the game as follows:
* standard size, civs CAN be chosen, everything random
* human players start with 4 settlers and 4 workers
* everyone has all traits
* AI: around demigod, but the AI has 6-8 settlers.
please post any thoughts to this idea... and if you agree, please confirm- Artificial Intelligence usually beats real stupidity

ah, an answer... thanks
what do you mean with "weed out". just the obsolete UU-civs? or also the ones with "useless" traits?
imho, i'd leave everything in and people can chose their civ. eg. if you like the mayan traits, you might even not mind having a useless UU.
further opinions?- Artificial Intelligence usually beats real stupidity

With or without this rule, I'd like to start an ultra-quickie game- all IC Tournament settings with two changes:
*Accel Production
*Elimination Mode
I need to see if Elimination Mode works Ok with PBEM, just to find out how fast a complete game can be done. Are there three fellow guinea pi- er, volunteers?Enjoy Slurm - it's highly addictive!

the four settler start sounds good, but AI should get same not more. As to the traits I think it will not be the civ we know if we all had all traits, though I cant knock it till Ive tried it. As were in the middle ages for this why not have a few defensive units too, enough to garrison your four settlements, and a scout each too.
Accelerated production might be good but not sure how AI will cope with this, and at a higher diff level will the AI if it does cope well with Accelerated production, will we be able to compete as it spits out units with its huge production advantages.
Not sure I like the unit naming message thing, sounds like a exploit to meA proud member of the "Apolyton Story Writers Guild".There are many great stories at the Civ 3 stories forum, do yourself a favour and visit the forum. Lose yourself in one of many epic tales and be inspired to write yourself, as I was.

ok, maybe i didn't really get it...
