  • Hey GK, try first canceling out any stacked automatic movement orders; I've had the game crash on me when a stack hit an invisible unit.

The other list is standard: turn off all animations, sounds, make sure you have lots of free space on your hard drive and also have rebooted your computer since the last time civ3 crashed.

    • Like Jon says, try deactivating any and all orders for units that have Active status. I mean literally clicking on all of them, including moved ones, and Workers.

If you are toying with Specialists, make sure you have the right popheads graphics that include Civil Engineers. If you do not, the game will crash when you click on an Entertainer to try and change him into some other Specialist.
      Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

      • I replayed the turn that SR sent me and have passed it on to Godking.

            • If it doesn't work, I vote we let the French play the turn. But get Godking to send a list of orders.

It sounds to me like it could be just running out of memory. Just due to the random nature of events. Do you have enough free hard disk space?.

Also, go into Control Panel / System / Advanced and find the virtual memory settings, and allocate some more. I know some versions of WinXP have come with default values that are much too low. Try minumum as 1024 and max as about 4GB. This will make sure the game has plenty of room to move memory wise.

              Anyways, just a thought.

If nothing helps, that is acceptable. I still hope this can be solved, though.

                I e-mailed him yesterday.

                • Ok, God King has no automatic orders. (Verified by cyling thru all units)

I couldn't get it to crash for me. Must be a virtual memory thing.

Hum, I may know a bit too much about the defenses of Tripoli to actually give orders for real.

                  • I think it's fair to say that the English and French are allies and are sharing most information. Hence, as I said, Im happy for the French to play this turn to get it moving again. However I think it would be best if the English gave a basic list of orders/plans.

Anyways, if the save is not corrupted, then maybe Godking can get it working.

It's been a couple of weeks now so I'd like to see it get moving again.

                    • E-mailed GodKing again...

EDIT: Over three days waiting, now. Jon, please play this one save. Hopefully GodKing will be able to play the next one without problems.

                      • If GK doesn't play this before I get WWI, I'll play them both one right after the other in sequence.

                            • OK, I've got the save. I've been in hospital this week, but Im out now so am ok to play. However I've left the CD at the office so I won't play until the morning. Good to see the game is moving again though.
