October 1508 to Paddy.
Emperor Toba decided to retire to a Buddhist monastery and abdicated in favour of his nephew, new emperor Go-Shirakawa (later Shirakawa). Emperor Toba was one of the biggest opponents of the new Christian religion, but Go-Shirakawa is much more open-minded. Perhaps this change will convince the Portuguese that the Japanese people are ready for the secret of gunpowder.

Retired Emperor Toba has formed a cloistered government and assumed the title of In (Cloistered Emperor). Toba In has ordered all Portuguese out of Japan and all cathedrals burnt. Whoever makes contact with the Portuguese after this Imperial Decree will be considered a rebel and will face the entire might of the loyalist forces.
Emperor Go-Shirakawa (Go-Shirakawa Tenno) will resume his protocolar duties, but will be largely stripped of his executive powers.

It has recently been discovered that Daimyo Paddy of the Date clan has made contact with the Portuguese. Furious Toba In has promptly ordered all loyalists to attack the Date clan and take Daimyo Paddy prisoner and bring him to his cloister in the Miyoshi city of Wakasa where he has set up his government.
However, Daimyo Ljube of the Oda clan had other ideas. Weary of constant warfare, he did not want to start another one. So he sent his ninja army to defeat the forces loyal to the cloistered emperor and capture him. It turned out that the loyalist forces were few in numbers. Toba In was forced to retire once more, this time to the exile on the island of Oki to the monastery in the city of Tokuyama where he will no longer be in the position to influence the politics of Japan. Go-Shirakawa Tenno assumed full Imperial Powers once again.
April 1512 to Paddy.
