Hmm, I finally looked at the save. It seems you tried very hard to recapture Otawara. Four monks were stationed there. One of them was dead and the other 3 were upgraded to elite. I also found a great leader in Otawara so the battle must have been fierce.

Yes, sent in any monk I could spare. There were enough Archers around, but they lack the mobility. They get pretty useless without Roads.
