Might that have something to do with Spain's failure to defend Sweden in any way, shape or form, and the departure of your remaining troops (those who haven't been slaughtered or captured) from the north?

          • Trust you? Spain? Who broke the alliance forged in blood by the powers of Europe?

Never again! We still remember the ancient stories of that Spanish descended Japanese Emperor who so brutally turned on his peaceful neighbour Egypt....and did not live long to regret it.

                        • Ferdinand the Usurper asks Russia to forgive the foolish actions of the former king and make peace. We also send the gift of a gold-gilt map of the world (signed by the artist!) to show our good will and intentions.

I am committed to defence of the homeland only and so has withdrawn all troops on foreign soil. I have, however, sent out three observers to watch the progress of the war. Please let me know if they are in your way.

                          Regards,

Ferdinand the Usurper, formerly Ferdinand of the Infantry, Ferdinand of the Artillery, and Ferdinand the sheep, uh, herder. Yeah, that's it.

                            • Ferdinand....welcome to the world of politics. The first thing you will is that by deposing the former dictator of Spain, you must now take responsibility for his actions. It's all very well asking mighty Russia for peace, however our troops in the south of our land continue to fall to Ottoman and Austrian guns.......guns that were specifically and purposefully trained upon them by Spain, in its alliance with those 2 despicable nations against mother Russia.

No Ferdinand, we shall not grant peace. Not until Spain engineers a peace with Austria and the Ottomans for us, and pays Russia reparations, so that our widows and childless mothers can be compensated in part for their eternal losses.

                              • So, "The fathers shall eat sour grapes and their children's teeth will be set on edge." My new government is not responsible for what King Carlos did. Still, I will offer some reparation for the soldiers killed or injured by the Spanish in Sweden. However, we are not responsible for damage inflicted by the Austrians and Ottomans. Who, by the way, are extremely annoyed with Spain's change of government.
