  • 4th MP tournament (or should that be 2nd?)

Who is interested? I would like to see if we can get one going to start the weekend of Jan 31-Feb 1 (officially Feb 1).

Registration would be open until Jan 30th or 31st, so we could see if we can get the 8, 16, or 32 people that would be preferred.

Rounds would be allowed up to 2 weeks most likely, to ensure that players have ample time to get games finished.

The players would be grouped into two. Known and experienced players would fill up the chart from the top down. New or lesser known players would fill up the seeds from the bottom up. This way the games should hit fewer snags of people being uncommitted. Known players who do not rate too high on reliablility would be in the second group, if any spot were available at all.

The goal is to have tourneys start, and finish, on time. All of this is subject to debate and possibly better ideas, of course.

Some discussion has been going on here.

    Tournament rules:
    1) Rounds last 14(?) days: Round I ends on Feb 15, 2004, 00:00 Apolyton Time(AT), later rounds as posted.
    2) The two opponents must arrange and complete their game within this time period. The arrangment must be announced on this thread. Methods for determining winners from incomplete games are being considered. Final decesions would be made by the administrator (who wants it?).
    3) No extentions will be granted without a valid death certificate for the player. Not trying to offend here, but either we are going to complete these things or the whole idea will die. Extentions have killed the second and third tourneys.

    Game rules:
    1) Games will be set on Tiny Pangea maps with 2 AI's.
    2) Tournament Type must be selected on all occasions.
    3) Default settings will be Simultaneous mode with a Slow Turn Clock
    4) Game results should be posted here by both players, as well as mailed to the administrator
    5) A minimum of 30 turns of "initial peace" (during which the opponents dont attack each other) must be observed by the opponents
    6) In case of a dispute, saved games must be provided
    7) If the two opponents of a game can reach an agreement on different settings and promise not to complain about the outcome they are free to do so
    8) Games of a round will be played with a standard patch version which will be announced prior to the beginning of that round. Currently we would be using 1.12 for round 1 (that might change if localisations are finished soon).
    9) There is no Rule #9
    10) Have fun!

Please state your interest in playing, and your comments if you have them.

I might be interested, but I'm not very well trained due to very little playing time, so I expect to die on turn 31 (Well, than it can only become better than expected right)

But before I decide I need to know about how long time in real time a game of this time uses to take.

As little as 2 hours for a short one with close starts. As many as 6 or 10 hours if you back off and build, build, build.

Some of the more experienced MPers will correct me if I am wrong.

Oh, could people also post their time zones and which hours of the week days AND weekends you are usually available?

We can try to avoid having really bad schedule clashes in early rounds.

Well, book me up for a spot. Hopefully I'll still be able to do the Mechanics. (It's said to be the hardest cource of my year, some people have to do the exam six times before the get a 3 (which is the minimum accepted grade))

I guess I'll have to depatch it from 1.15 by the time this starts then.

You can maintain multiple patches by copying the main directory and the text sub-directory. Maybe best to watch before and after each patch for other changed files though.

For whoever cares, it looks like there were some changes to scenario biq files and some files in the Conquests subdirectory (the one where the historical scenario specifics are stored) with 1.15

If you wish, you could back up the Conquests\Conquests directory and the Conquests\Scenarios directory.

                      I'd be interested.

I'm available weeknights from 8-11 EST (excluding Thursdays) and weekends by appointment but usually free.

Thanks for taking the lead nye.

I can play Tuesday nights 1pm-8pm finish. Most of my weekends can be free from Friday 1pm to Sunday 7pm. All times are EST as I think it would be easier for each person to convert their time into a standard form. I am GMT. I don't have any major plans that eclipse whole weeks for the next couple of months.

I've been having a lot of fun playing on the ladder, but I don't meet enough 'poly people on there. Hopefully this will be a good chance to face off against those names I have come to admire. And I need some more heads for my trophy cabinet

At least this way everyone can know how to dual install, if they didn't before

Well thing's is that I've been having dual installs since ther very first Civ3 patch, due to compability tests with C3MT, however, since I bought a new computer I didn't bother to reinstall every single patch that has ever been released, so I don't have the multibple installations anymore, buty I still know I can make them. It's just more work.

And BTW the ROW 1.15 BET has been posted now, so 1.15 shouldn't be a problem for localized versions either.
