It's my favoured method of revenge.

Russian archers get a flukey result against my rifleman? In 2,000 years, there'll be an ICBM with "Moscow" written on it...

Sod strategy, they're just so cathartic...

To nuke another civilization, I would have to roleplay it : I would need to have some horrible treachery done to me, by a particularly hated opponnent. Then, the nuke would be used in retaliation, just to show him that he did piss of the bad guy

Actually, the Japanese sneak-attacked me and razed two cities (two tiny ones in a faraway island that I did not bother to protect). I plan to retaliate with extreme prejudice once I'll get the ability to

I changed my mind. I CAN think of a time I would use nukes: on Firaxcis when they have the nerve to tell us we have to spend $30 for a scenario disk.

I just used my first two in the game im playing now-

Its a world war -4vs4-out of 12starting civs.

My allies have no problem that I nuked Berlin and Hamburg.
In fact they are quite happy about it.
I must say it was quite satisfying. What WERE these guys thinking when they DOWed me?I fully intend to rain nukes on there a$$es untill everyone of them is completly crippled.

Now Coracle. You can just not buy it. No reason to get nasty.

OTOH, I would use a nuke if I heard Firaxis was making SMAC2.
Pre-emptive strike would save a lot of complaining later.

In the one game I played in which I conquered 2/3 of the world's landmass in 10 turns (the game went from 7 civs to just 3 very fast), I used them to soften up the biggest of the enemy cities to make way for my hundreds of modern armor and mech infantry.

If I'm the dominant world power -we're talking controlling two thirds of the landmass - I would use nukes as a precursor to invasion. It doesn't really matter if half the world goes to war with me, since I could crush them all.

From the years of playing civ2 I have learned to dislike using nukes: they make such a mess out of a properly and patiently build up landscape. And then there's an ethical/reality aspect: is using nukes possible in real life? Well, let's hope we won't find out again ... chances exist most of peoples around the globe wouldn't be able to play anymore and that would be a waste, wouldn't it?

So I NEVER use nukes, nor will I ever build the Manhattan Project.

As a matter of fact I will wage a full military campaign to the evil civ that starts building the Project itself, destroying the city where it was initially being constructed. Guaranteed fun and ... a warning for all other civs to not use/build these evil instruments of mass destruction.

All my games (playing 6 months already) have been 100% NUKE FREE.

                    I like it that way.

In the game, Coracle. In the game... I´ll give you 0.5 points for inventive whining though...

Come on AJ it´s just a game... I don´t even like war in RL. Not to mention sacrificing your citizens to build a temple or whatever. Nukes have a strategic value in Civ. Not using them is stupid IMO.

news up-date of my current game, it seem me and Babylon have a nuclear arms race! I'm planning on making it rain nukes on Babylon, i'll only target the citys with nukes in mind!

It seems babylon is the only civ to declare war if i nuke anybody else, cept they have quite a few. I suppose Clarksons theory is correct, the moment one person has one, everybody else needs one for sheer self defense!

I can win on emp and deity without using them, Kamrat, so I don't think it's stupid at all.

Regarding the 'it's just a game' you're right of course.

For gameplay reasons I just hate these nukes and they DON'T add any importance for me. (in a winning SP game they're will be NO nukes for anyone, as I won't allow them )

In one game the English annoyed me for some reason. They only had about 10 cities left on a fairly small island, while I was controlling most of the world. So with my spare nukes, I hit each city at least once, and some units out in the open. That way each and every square of English soil started radiating (had pollution on it).

Even better, the French decided to punish my distinct lack of compassion, and launched 5 nukes at some of my major cities. Bless the SDI, none of them hit
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).
