I have one question about the "culturally linked starting position" option. It's not quite clear to me which choice is the way Civ3 was originally (pre patch). I believe that positions were culturally linked, but the patch defaults to "off" so I'm not sure. Anybody know for sure? Firaxis?

I don't think they were culturally linked before.

After applying the patch strange black rectangles are showing all over my screen too at 1280x1024 resolution. I've got:

      ATi Radeon
      Driver version number 7.55-010523b-546E-ATI
      Driver date: 5-25-2001

        Game ending

I've installed the latest patch (downloaded this morning).
I continued playing a game from before the patch and it won't end! I build the spaceship, and nothing happened. Perhaps it has to fly there, I thought. But 70 years later: no dice. Perhaps I switched of the spaceship victory setting (how can you check this?).

Bit it's been 2050, and the game is still going. Does the end-year change according to difficulty level? Coulnd't find anything about this in the manual.

Also when I retire I used to get the histograph and a rating, but since installing the patch it just goes straight to the beginning screen (with load game and stuff). The score is still growing, so it's not as if the I'm still playing after winning the game.
I'm not sure if this is patch related, but thought it best to put it in the feedback nevertheless.

        I'm confused.

A strategy guide? Yeah, it's what used to be called the manual.

Conqueror, Tuomas... I'm getting the same graphics bug. I'm playing at 1280x1024 (KeepRes=1 in civilization3.ini), and after first visit to advisory screens, the city label box frames are drawn at wrong places on main map. The bug doesn't appear if I play at default 1024x768 resolution.

Has a newer version of the 1.16f patch been released since Saturday? I still am having the problem with Civ III caching 5 MB of data, and then doing nothing after that.

PIII, Voodoo III AGP 3000, Win XP

and yes it worked before the patch.

              Still having Sfaedisk2 Problems...

So V1.07F gave me Sfaedisk2 problems, so I got a V1.07Fa patch that resolved this, but 1.16F again gave me the same problem...

              Lock Up Scenario:
              1) Click on Civ3 icon
              2) A small game screen pops up, the CD-Rom spins, and then the computer locks up.

Have gone back to 1.07Fa until this can get resolved.

                UNinstall, REinstall, REport

OK, Uninstall and reinstall. Then try it.

Then apply the page. Try a new game with the patch.

If it still doesn't work, post what happens here. Usually it's something someone has experienced before.

I'm having the same prob. Had to comment out the 'keepres' line in the ini file & let it default to 1024...

                  Similar system to above.

& I don't like the change to the numbers for the city pop either. Doesn't look good.

Otherwise the fixed stuff appears fixed. Thanks!!!

                      Bugs

Hi all. Found some bugs, and had a couple of other questions.

1 - Lines in the Diplomacy Advisor missing.

2 - City boundary lines around settlers when they are judging where to place a city are missing.

3 - When adding units to the build queue, and the preference to build last build unit is checked, the game ignores the queue order. (Exaple: queued 2 warriors and a settler. when the warriors are done, it asks me if i want to build another warrior.) Shouldn't the queue take precedence? Actually, shouldn't the queue negate the need to tell me when it built something and just tell me when the last item is completed? I could always remove items from the queue before they are all finished.

4 - Drop shadows on city size numbers can look pretty awful at times. How bad they look depends on what the background color of the civ is, and whether or not the number is red, white, or yellow. When white, the drop shadows look good, usually. Pretty strange. It would be nice if I could shut of drop shadows in the preference screen.

5 - Don't know if this is a bug or not, but I can't see more than 8 civs in the diplomacy screen at one time. I have embassies in 5 civs, but only 3 show up, with the standard cutout figure for the rest of the spots. Am I missing something here? Shouldn't the game show any civs I have come in contact with until the 8 slots are filled (that is if only 8 can be shown)?

I am a bit confused about the patches. I know there are at least 2 versions floating around. The 1st patch, and the 2nd release that fixes xp/2000 problems. Is there a third that I don't know about, and if so, what does it fix?

On a brighter note, I am actually enjoying the game now (post initial patch). I edited the rules and corruption is no longer so catostrophic with a huge number of cities. Pre-patch Civ3 really killed the expansionist game - now it's cool. I have also noticed that the game runs MUCH better without any programs running in the background, even on fast system.

                      Thanks much!
                      Rob

                          Where is the Corruption Modifier?

Is the 'Percentage of Optimal Cities' the Corruption Modifier that was added to the Difficulty Level Tab?

Also, I there is no changes to Corruption that I have been able to see. Before applying the patch, I purposely recorded the Corruption that was in the game for every type of Government (a whole afternoon gone ) and have seen no difference after applying the Patch. I even redownloaded and reinstalled the Patch, incase I had gotten the "broken" Patch.

I'm still working on inputing my results into Excel, but at first glance, everything is the same. When two of the Changes deal with corruption, I do expect there to be some noticable difference.

I'll upload the Spreadsheet that I've worked on (and the various saved games that the data is taken from) at anyones request.

                            RE: Foriegn Advisor Bug

First Off: A Kick butt Game!

I tried to play Pools of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor but. . . Oh God. . . the bugs. . . the bugs. . .

                            Couple of things:

                            1. I have the very latest corrected patch. I am running Windows XP, 1024 M RAM, 60 G Hard Drive, Athlon XP 1700+, the fabled Soundblaster Live!, and a GeForce 3 Ti500. I dunno if this helps but I thought I'd give the specs.

                            2. The corruption must end. . .

                            3. I like the fact the game is harder though.

                            4. Fix the problem where units are stacked. I would like to have all of them activate at once rather than flip me across the universe to another active unit first.

                            5. For some reason, only 1 civ has coal every game I play. While this is cute, it has become disturbing.

                            6. What is the insanity of Civ's plopping a settler in the middle of your territory? Can this be stopped?

                            7. Hmmm. . . that's all for now, but I'll think of some more!
                            It is a tale
                            Told by an idiot
                            Full of Sound and Fury
                            Signifying nothing. . .

Actually they were. For instance, if you played the Iroquois you would always be near the Americans and the Aztecs. You rarely run into a civilization that doesn't share at least one trait with yours in the early game on larger maps.

I've noticed one minor glitch, but not sure if it's related to the patch as it's the first game that was actually won on my wife's system, which is a different OS (ME) from the one I've won my many games on (XP) - in a cultural victory the faces of the other rulers on the congratulations screen were blacked out, you could only see the little bubble with the picture of your ruler in it. Very minor, only mentioning it to help the guys at Firaxis should anyone else have it show up.

This is a cross-post from another thread:

Has anyone else been having problems with Shift-P? I ran into a problem where hitting Shift-P didn't result in the worker heading for the pollution. In the middle of the next turn the problem was fixed, but after that it stopped working again.

There's more. After I gnashed my teeth and began taking care of it manually, I used Shift-C, the command for taking care of polltion. But no matter how many workers I put on a single patch, it just wouldn't clean up in one turn. Later I discovered that if I hit Shift-P instead (But while already over a patch of pollution) it would now clean up the same turn.

                                Anyone else run into this?

                                *ADDITION*

This is after the latter update, not the former.
