      Re: Raion

Maybe you have a virus? Some viruses corrupt .dll files. Have you ran a virius checker which is up to date?

...although I don't know how it would be different depending on how many times you restart....

          Works great!

Works great on WinXP here! Thanks Firaxis.

I have one question about the "culturally linked starting position" option. It's not quite clear to me which choice is the way Civ3 was originally (pre patch). I believe that positions were culturally linked, but the patch defaults to "off" so I'm not sure. Anybody know for sure? Firaxis?

              I still don't get it.

When I ran the (second) patch, it prompted me to delete the old file. I okayed that. It then proceeded to install the new patch.

Why should I run this again?

Corporal Clegg, Where did you get the patch that's working for you? I got mine -- which, after installation, starts a civilization3.exe process that grabs about 5M RAM and then sits idle without actually bringing up the app -- from Firaxis (www.civ3.com/patches.cfm) at 3:45 PM CST Dec 8.

                Thanks.

Thanks for providing this patch! The time lag between turns is much more manageable. The features I appreciate the most are the ability to set the production to remain as set until changed, the fact that the program no longer constantly updates my startup files, and the overall increase in game speed. The corruption is much more manageable, and the mid level games seem more rewarding and less frustrating.

The popup screens/reminders for civil unrest are also excellent, as they save a couple of keystrokes, and you can be assured you have not missed any cities in civil disorder.

I have noted no problems with the patch. (latest)

Just to confirm a major bug:

I'm running WIN2K and the diplomatic advisor screen does not show any diplomatic lines.

Plus, the game is much more unstable. I had two crashes in one day when before I never, ever had any.

                      win 98se , gforce2 mx latest drivers,Intel p-3 800mhz,256 ram.

                      my observation so far:

                      good things:

-air superiority finely works, and works great -
-game MUCH FASTER after the patch, large verity of animation options to turn off (i play with all the animation on,just love them, great art work).

                      bad things

-POP NUMBER SHADOW- its to much annoying ,so i mention it on the top of my bad things list,it really doesn't feet on the overall great graphic look you (FIRAXIS) have created, dunno why u changed that (color blind related issue?),but i hope u can give us the option to turn that shadow off,it looks so black on the soft beautiful colors of the map...grrrr
                      - game become unstable-before the patch the game didn't crashed, not ones!!after the first patch i had all kind of ghost lines at the advisor screen, and the game crashed right after i closed those windows. after the second patch the lines gone away, and the game crashes only if i go to the advisor screen then close it and immediately quit the game .

didn't played a full patched game so i didnt checked playability , or if it crashes in other situations

I installed the "updated" patch but can't get the game to run. All it does is hang with the civilization3.exe taking up about 5 megs and another temporary thread running. I'm running Windows XP Professional. I had no problems before installing the patch. Can someone help me? I even tried reinstalling. Reinstalled the game ran fine, installed the patch it doesn't run.

I was looking forward to playing now that the patch is released...

I, too, prefer the old population number without the shadow. For some reason, it is much more dificult to read now. Plus, it looks kind of tacky .

Got it directly from the civfanatics linked posted earlier in this thread by Killerdaffy. Seems to work fine for me on WinXP home version, although it looks like some folks are having problems...

                                Bug with larger resolutions ?

I noticed a new bug with using larger resolutions then 1024x768 in civ3.

After visiting some of the advisors (F1 - F11), the frames from the box below town 'drops' few tiles downwards.

This does NOT happen with 1024x768, only larger resolutions, so it can be fixed by playing only on 1024x768... but i for one have 21" monitor and would like to use larger resolution without suffering this bug.

It may also be that this bug is graphics card related ? I have Elsa Geforce 3 and so far have tried Elsa 21.81 drivers, Nvidia reference 21.83 and 23.11 drivers but doesnt seem to help.

Picture i added hopefully explains the problem.
