True, i have that also, didnt happen before the 1.16f patch. (am using the upgraded patch of it)
f4, then f11 and then back to the game and whoops = graphics are messed up.

Well this can ofcourse be avoided by not pressing those keys

Hope this will be addressed in the next patch.

Ever try contacting Firaxis about it? Don't bother. They will bite your head off for running it under an unsupported OS.

I guess this is why they didn't support it... maybe their QA isn't all that familiar with 2000?
shame on firaxis for not making a 1999 game play without problems on windows 2000!

I installed the "updated" patch but can't get the game to run. All it does is hang with the civilization3.exe taking up about 5 megs and another temporary thread running. I'm running Windows XP. I had no problems before installing the patch. Can someone help me? I was looking forward to playing now that the patch is released...

            No....

            MarkG:
Shame on them for not actually even listening to me long enough for me to explain what I was asking... I was trying to ask tech support questions that had absolutely nothing with Win2k and they don't bother to answer, citing that I had Win2k.

... they avoided my question completely. At least the other major company I was dealing with at the time with similar problems tried to assist me a little bit...

Then again, why should they listen to me... all I did was inform them of some of the problems with Win2k and asked for a little assistance with something UNRELATED to it. I eventually found (and fixed) the problem on my own, but with a slight bit of resentment.

You know, all of this reminds of a nursery rhyme about an old woman who swallowed a fly. How did it go again?

              Oh yes, now I remember!

              There Was an Old Lady
              Who Swallowed a Fly

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.
I don't know why she swallowed a fly.
              Perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider.
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly.
              Perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a bird.
How absurd to swallow a bird.
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly.
              Perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a cat.
Imagine that, she swallowed a cat.
She swallowed a cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly.
              Perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a dog.
Oh, what a hog to swallow a dog.
She swallowed a dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly.
              Perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a cow.
I'm not sure how she swallowed a cow.
She swallowed a cow to catch the dog,
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly.
              Perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a horse.
              She's dead, of course!

Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

I'm waiting to test the air superiority deal although I am skeptical based on the highly touted and poorly executed reduction in the level of corruption.
Corruption is now modifyable in the editor, so if it isn't reduced enough for your tastes change it.

For those who are complaining about QA:
This IS a defficiency in the diversity of machines their QA people are running, but it's not as bad as they didn't test it at all on Win2k/XP. Lots of people on these boards are running under those OSes with no problems, so it's likely that it just doesn't repro on the QA department's machines.

I am also suffering the same, running Win XP Home. I can un/reinstall, at which point I'm back up and running with the original build, but I'm missing out on the bug fixes and enhancements.

I sent an e-mail to Jeff at Firaxis explaining the problem. I'm not sure if it'll help any, but it's worth a shot. Ah well, more waiting for me I guess. I'm patient...

Rasputin, well, there was a patch that fixed a problem with Windows 2000 and XP, but I don't think it was the problem I and others here are having.
