  • Patch Update 12/7/01

Well, there is a big compatability issue with the new version and Win2k/XP machines. If you have these OS, don't apply the patch. We're working on a solution, but if it is a significant change, it will need to be resubmitted to testing.

    Thanks for your patience.

I wonder what exactly the problem is - it runs (currently) fine on my machine under win2k (hope this doesn´t change)....

      Now he tells me!

And for those who already patched the game on win 2k, what should they do? Reinstall or wait?

I've been playing for 3 hours on my win2k machine and it works just fine (version 1.16f). I'm problaly just a lucky one

Everything seems to work. The speed of the game is now superb - fast scrolling and the new pef are great.

Thanx for working on this GREAT game.

Ups - just one thing has dissapeared:

            Oh NO, Mr. (Bill) Morris

Oops -- too late! Already continuing a saved game with 1.16f.
HP pavilion 7935, 384MB, Windows XP as pre-installed (plus the bleepin security updates that 'automatically' are done).

I had made a couple of adjustments in the editor (Barbarian combat advantage) and then went on with the game. The game quit* on me before I had completed a turn, but I started up again and everything has been hunky dorey so far.

*re 'quit': Sorry, Macintosh parlance. Don't know yet how it's termed in Windozian language.

Is this a known BUG ?

I *did* patch on Win2k Pro
              this afternoon.

I noticed it started not seeing
the civ II cdrom in the DVD-ROM
drive , so I moved it to the CDRW drive. This sounds like an OS issue.

The BUG which I want to ask about:

I loaded my old game and I started diplomacy.

I put up Invention to the Annoyed Zulus
and asked what they would give:

              Incense
              World Map
              13 Gold per Turn
              20 Gold

My advisor said they would never go
for the deal - which the Zulus proposed!

I offered this trade and they did
              refuse it.

Is this a Win2k bug ? It looks much more like a universal bug that the
              patch (1.16f) introduced.

I submitted this to the Firaxis email tech support web page already.....

I could send someone my game file
              to verify.....

High Points : The new Nvidia drivers
this week helped a little but this
patch made the map scrolling *instantanous*. Good Job!

Something like that happened to me too, but in my case they accepted

how could the f key crash have gotten by testers?

The sys req on the box say>95/98/Me/2000/XP.Are the testers all using the same machine?...I really think you need to look at these testers.

Do you need information on where the bug is occurring? I am experiencing it (assuming it's the one where it cannot find the CD). My information:

MSI K7T Pro Turbo motherboard (Via KT133)
Athlon 900 (Thunderbird, 100 MHz DDR FSB)
                      512 MB PC133 SDRAM
                      Plextor 12/10/32A cd-rw
                      some generic cd-rom drive
                      Creative's GeForce2 GTS
Windows 2000 SP2 with all updates installed
DirectX 8.1a (what came with the civ3 CD)
                      Soundblaster Live! Value

                      Auto-run is enabled

                      Windows/Apps drive: C:
                      Data Drive 1: E:
Data Drive 2: G: (hey, I have a lot of.... "data." Thank you Audiogalaxy)
                      CD-ROM: H:
                      CD-RW: I:

Need anything else? Assuming you needed this in the first place.

Oh, wait... setting my CD-ROM drive to be D: (the first gap) makes it work.

For anyone who has win2k (dunno about XP home), you can easily change the drive letter. Right-Click on "My Computer" and select "Manage." Choose "Disk Management" from the tree on the left. On the right side, right-click your CD-ROM drive and select "change drive letter and path." Then click the Edit button on the dialog that appears. In the next dialog change your drive to be the first available one. It might have to be the first available one AFTER your windows drive; I'm just guessing. You might also be able to ADD a new drive name so that your CD-ROM drive is associated with two different drive names at the same time, but I haven't tried that (in case you don't want to screw things up that depend on the CD-ROM drive being where it is now).

I am trying to attach screenshots.

                          I reloaded again, and following
                          bug fixing advice seen elsewhere
in the patch discussions, I waited
until the next turn to try the
diplomacy - and it worked this time.

So what you need is a FAQ entry
                          for the patch :

If you load a saved game, go the
next turn ASAP to avoid initial bugs.

Of course your CD drive issue still
                          exists...
