For me, "We will finish the editor later" translates into "We will come out with an expansion to the game so we can take more of your money!!!!!!"

I'm with Dansch. I don't care if it comes in an expansion. I just want it done. The advantage to an expansion is that they'll at least have to add a fair amount of good stuff to make people want to buy it. It should be at least to level that ToT's editing tools were (multiple maps might be tough). Frankly it ought to be better than that.

plus I'd like to request the ability to add units, more than the 21 you can add now in an indirect way.

Add me...you may not have played my one released scenario:

          scenario: thering by ChrisHutch...
          e-mail: BAkittenOFchaos@aol.com

It was an "upgrade" of Harlan Thompson's "Lord of the Rings" scenario...it had different graphics, more types of unit (and some changes so that unit utilisation was greater) plus you could play as Gondor and Rohan at the same time as the A.I never rode to your aid.

Thus I was able to make things tougher for Gondor as Rohan would be much more effective when they finally get to fight Mordor...plus I added as many appropriate events as possible (I'm pretty sure I had uploaded the version that required Golum to complete the quest! and in addition Moria would be colonized by Dwarves should you clear it...and the Balrog was made easier to destroy so Moria was an option!)

The scenario was available at Mr Temba's Site...I don't know if it is still available and since theives stole my old computer I don't have it to upload again

Anyway I support this open letter and the points raised...at the very least being able to play the world map with civilisations starting in their historic places HAS to be provided as soon as possible.

            Boycott civ 3

A feedback form!? This IS feedback, and they obviously read it. The problem is that they don't respond. See, a guy like me was originally just annoyed that the game didn't include decent modifying tools; but it does not speak well of Firaxis that they choose not to respond to fan feedback.

I, for one, am not satisfied with the product that they produced, and as such, I plan on excercising my power as a consumer to withold my money until Firaxis produces something decent for scenario makers, and I encourage everyone else who is dissatisfied to do the same. If Firaxis sees a surge in sales after they release an editor patch, that will speak in a language they can understand: money. I really think they miscalculated here. I know that there are alot of rookies who don't see what's so bad about it, but there are alot of us that expect more from several years of waiting and 50 bucks. If Firaxis is going to put such a high premium on selling the most units possible, then we as fans need to use that goal to produce a better civ product. I say boycott Civ 3. I may be the only one doing this, but I don't really care. They're not getting my fifty dollars without showing some consideration to the scenario community.

Jeff Morris shouldn't say that they are looking to have a dialogue with the Scenario-Making Community if he really doesn't want one. And if he does, he should engage us here, unquestionably the most appropriate site to do so.

I for one, find it inexcusable that a succeeding game, as this one is advertised, lacks the basic features of the game it succeeded.

I was waiting CIV3 for months to build my scenario about Middle East water problem...

If they can't do any rules.txt, why don't they allow flat world like Civ2, and do like Maxis for SC3K and put a sort of data sheet?
                Hi!

While I am not a scenario creator, I totally empathize with the views and feelings of this community who in their serious sustained work have brought much enjoyment and extended the dimensions of the original Civ2.

Developers and a company who ignore this sensible request send obvious signals about their intentions. The defence based on their being family people who need to bring home the bacon is no defence at all.

                  Keep up the pressure!

Lack of a scenario editor was a serious disappointment for me, because that's one thing I'm always looking for in these games. So sign me up for the letter.

Who patiently read me already know my disclaimer about not been a dedicated player of scenario or MOD in Civ II or SMAC, but considering my change in taste and the great promises from Firaxis I was considering to spend some time around three history scenario, mainly around not combat situation: one in middle age Europe (mainly focused on Italy) and a couple on modern era.

As I see on every editor review, I understand I can't barely have any basic tool to start my tasks, not to mention complete them to a level high enough to interest any game community.

I can live without a scenary (well, at least without mine scenary), but it seems to me a great loss for Civ III I step in to support your demand to Firaxis.

Thanks Markos. (For emailing the letter, not de-topping the thread) Do you have any idea when we might expect a reply? Has Firaxis indicated to you that they intend to provide one?
