  • Things you're doing whilst waiting for Civ III to arrive

Other than the obligatory spending time with girlfriend and university studies stuff. I have found a lot of fun on my little Game Boy Advance system. There have been a number of "AAA" grade games released recently that have done well to hold my attention. Advance wars, Castlevania, Mario Advance and Mario Kart are all extremely fun titles which I recemend highly .

On the literary front, I have read a few fascinating titles. "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole, one of the best books I have read in recent years; and "Fast Food Nation" a fascinating, and often-times disturbing look at the Fast Food industry. Although only released earlier this year, critics are already hailing it as a modern-day "The Jungle". If anyone else here is a history buff (and I'm sure some are), "Japan's War" by Hoyt is a wonderful account of Japan's involvement in WW II.

Also, if Civ III weren't coming out, I would be highly pining over a little title by the name of "Zoo Tycoon" which is coming out Oct. 18th. Although I haven't played any of the previous titles in the Tycoon series, I am a great lover of animals and this game looks truly amazing. It would probably be the game dominating my every waking thought were Civ III to not exist. In any event, I reccemend anyone who enjoys sim-city/Theme Park type games to take a good look at it. Bears can get loose and attack innocent denizens of your zoo if you are careless...what more is needed in a game?

Oh yeah, and I have been playing a little game called "Civilization II" or something along those lines.
Let's hear what the rest of this fine community is doing to help pass the time.

i've been playing alot of ps2 games (i just got a ps2 a week back) specifically gran turismo 3. . (man, those endurance races are LONG! but i've done several of those, and come in first place.)
also, i just got Chrono Cross and the Final Fantasy Anthologies (numbers V and VI) . . i'm about 5 or 6 hours into chrono cross right now. an excellent game. i've been reading Vaccume Diagrams by Stephen Baxter. . a very interesting books, makes me want to get the series that it's based on, but i can't for the life of me find it at the mall. i'm working on my computer some, installed linux and am fiddling around with that. i managed to screw with the partitions and delete my entire secondary harddrive. . (about 20 gigs worth of installed games and about 2000 mp3's. ouch.) posting alot on apolyton, and staying ahead in class. (i'm tied for the top right now with a 4.0, in the korean course. the only other two 4.0's are both held by native korean speakers that are taking the course to brush up. ) Watching moves, i just recently bought Snatch, Swingers, and Run Lola Run. (watching that movie made me remember how easy german is compared to korean. ) going out sometimes on the weekends to have a few beers, OR buying some beer to drink in the room while playing diablo 2 online (level 72 assasin anyone? ) hmm, there's probably more that i can't remember. heh

I'm actually teaching a couple computer classes at school and trying to get ahead in my own classwork. I'm worried Civ III is going to wreak havoc on studying..

Right on! I hope you'll visit out here soon. I'll buy large quantities of mood altering alcohol in celebration for you.

As for what I'll do while waiting for Civ: I'm chaning jobs right now, so life is chaos. Frankly, I probably won't be able to enjoy Civ anyway for several months.

Work, school work, and for fun, Tropico. Not a bad game the first few times, but limited replay value.

And of course, I come here every day looking for the latest Civ III updates. I'm always thirsty for even the slightest new info on the game.

                1) Researching components for my new computer system.
                2) Working more shifts (actually works --> I picked up a whole bunch more shifts since late Sept and poof there went 2 weeks)
                3) Grumbling about there still being 3 weeks until Civ3 to my wife. ("why couldn't it be out now dear?")
                4) Frequenting this site more often just to get some civsatiation.

Let's see...I've been posting on Apolyton, learning Russian in my free time (boy is that difficult!), currently reading "A Brief History of Time" by Steven Hawking and "Pale Blue Dot" by Carl Sagan (not much into fiction as you can tell), sleeping, but not concentrating on my schoolwork like the rest of you (I'm a chronic procrastinator), although still passing my AP French and Spanish courses with flying colors, because after reading about Russian, the Romance languages are a piece of cake!

                          Hmmm

                          how about *concept* civ2?!
If one has already quit playing civ2, I don't see why the release of civ3 excites them so much. It's not going to be that different

I'm playing Europa Universalis and realizing I don't like it. In case there are any EU zealots here, I understand the game, I know how to play it, just seems like about as much fun as using Excel and having some of the cells get corrupted every now and then.

Other than that, I'm keeping my wife up-to-date on the progress of Civ3 and the idiocy that reigns on some of the forums for that game.... oops, let that one slip.......

PH, your candid statements will never cease to amaze me. I mean, a lot of us may be doing the latter, but you don't have to state it.
