Myrddin: LOL A year has gone by and I've hardly played any games. SOMETHING IS WRONG!

Nikolai: Hey, thanks. That's quite nice. Do you think Civ3 is worth getting back in to? I feel like now I'm way too out of the conversation...

Yin26 - it's still not SMAC, and never will be.

But it's a whole different game (and a much better one IMO) from its initial release, especially with C3C added. Some of the improvement is just learning how things work (like culture, like the combat system) and building your strategies to take the design into account. Part of the improvement is the iterative work of Soren et. al. in improving the AI and adding new features.

I'm enjoying it, unlike the initial release which occupied about two weeks of my playing time before I moved along and waited for patches.

I havent bought it yet (my willpower is holding this time), but from initial comments, it looks like there have been substantial changes with C3C. My guess is that if this game had come out as 'Civ3' more of the older players might still be playing 'civ'.
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

            Markos:

You still running the ship? You have the patience of Biblical legend.

Stuie and SpencerH: Well, I like to hear about improvements since I'm growing tired of Galactic Civilizations (great game but just so-so atmosphere). So, I guess I have been playing computer games a little, but I miss being completely hooked. If I can get the bundle some months from now, I think I will.

Thanks for putting me in the group that tried to make a point. Personally, I had high expectations of Civ3 (some of them unfair some of them Firaxis simply failed on), so when the initial release was such a mess, I vowed to be quiet until the Gold Edition came out, at which time I thought I'd give the game a try. Of course, I see the GE doesn't have the X-pack, so I'll wait for the bundle at $19.99.

Long story short: The hardcore folks were here at Poly and, for the most part, were very disappointed with Civ3 whereas the other site had many more people with the "I'll play any Civ I can get" mentality. So, fair enough that Firaxis would rather be more active there.
                Hmm...

Didn't you yin, after trying Civ3 once said that once the most expansion packs get out, you'll buy some sort of Gold edition for small price after all.

If we ignore that Gold ed. is already out (vanilla + PtW), I bet that next yeat we'll see some sort of Deluxe editior with all things in one.

I visit both Apolyton and CivFanatics, but I only post here. In CFC I have a couple of post in just one thread, if I remeber correctly. But, still I visit more CFC 'cause they have over there a bigger modding community(or work) than we have on 'Poly (well, that or pepole from here doesn't want to fill up 'Poly servers and they post over there )

Fortune and Glory, here I come!!!.

Markos: Well, by running the best site of its kind, you've somewhat managed to blur the line between playing Civ and life anyway! For that, you deserve a new server and a few hot babes to play against you in a late-night LAN game.

Player1: Yes, I said that very thing. Geez, I didn't realize the microphone was on at the time! LOL I think you are right that the Deluxe edition will be out early part of next year. That's when I'll show up again with something to say, but everybody will already have said it ... only better.

Panag: In my earlier pre-kids days, you would have push me over the edge and right to the computer store...

yin: I didn't buy PTW, so I can't say how it is with that, but Civ3 is for me good, if not near what Civ1/2 was when they came. I will buy Conquests after a while though, as it seems good.(Must wait untill Christmas is over, as I have other games to try too, and Santa always seems to listen to my parents)

I would highly recommed you Europa Universalis 2 though. I have played that game since it came in 2001, and EU1 for a year before that. That game is AWESOME! And now a new game from the same producers(Paradox) is underway, which seems to be at least as good. Check Paradox' forums if you want.

Yin, we never interacted all that much, but I certainly know who you are.

C3C seems to be the answer to every Civver's prayers... if you're of a mind to do some gaming, this is it. A large number of the beta-testers came from here and CFC (and some others, like Sulla), and they're all giving it a big thumbs-up.

And, back OT, the level of activity here in the Civ3 forums has sky-rocketed... good stuff.
