  • Civfanatics, Apolyton and Firaxis.

Looking back at announcements about Conquests for the last weeks, I am under the impression that Firaxis considers Civfanatics as a preferred supplier for information to Apolyton.

Firaxis people are more active on Civfanatics than Apolyton boards.

    Is this a correct impression?

    If so, why?

Well, if it was to be true, its probably due to Civfanatics being geared toward the Civilization series primarily while Apolyton appeals to more strategy games in general.

I think dojoboy has it about right. For example, we got all kinds of cool news and interviews from the developers of GalCiv and Rise of Nations, which CivFanatics don't even cover.

/edit: we also had several Call to Power developers posting here a lot (one still does).

yeah, i agree with you guys on that one. Especially as of late. Civfanatics has gotten the release of governments and several other categories of information over the last few days. But good point by dojoboy, apolyton is more geared towards strategy games in general.

I know for sure that before the release of Civ3 that there were a lot more Firaxians posting here at Poly than over at CFC. Then after the release a lot Poly people had some mean stuff to say to Firaxians. Firaxians got upset and decided not to post as much here instead over at CFC. That's basically what happened.
However, it is difficult to believe that 2 times 2 does not equal 4; does that make it true? On the other hand, is it really so difficult simply to accept everything that one has been brought up on and that has gradually struck deep roots – what is considered truth in the circle of moreover, really comforts and elevates man? Is that more difficult than to strike new paths, fighting the habitual, experiencing the insecurity of independence and the frequent wavering of one’s feelings and even one’s conscience, proceeding often without any consolation, but ever with the eternal goal of the true, the beautiful, and the good? - F.N.

Try a search for "culture flipping", "collector's edition" and "robust editor", that should be a good place to start.

(we really did get screwed on the editor thing IMHO .. not that that makes Firaxis bad people or anything)

It seems reasonable to suggest that it was all Infogrames' fault anyway, but what the hell...

                    Ahh, but nothing recently?

Soren still browses from time to time though

No I haven't seen anything recently. A few months after Civ3 came out all the whingers left. There was some harsh criticism (again, mostly justified IMHO) about the implementation of MP in PTW after that came out, though.

This was the impression I had. It looked to me that once people on Apolyton started turning up a considerable amount of heat, the Firaxis team got very frustrated and decided to go elsewhere. I can't say a blame them, considering a lot of the nasty, childish behavior from posters. Who wants to read the spiteful rants of the hour from Coracle all day?

Coracle posts (posted?) at CFC too.

That's a wee bit of an exaggeration. There were plenty of whingers around a lot longer than that.
