I posted in the First Contact thread to get us thinking again about the possibility of the early blitz when we meet our neighbours - which I suspect will be soon.
Please feel free to place you bets on timing for first contact. I say 3 turns. (civ, not barbarian)Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

Eli - I noticed the game has slowed down.
I suspect the other civs have met and need to take some time to discuss tech trades, etc.
(or the original excitement has worn off and people's jobs, education, and/or Christmas shopping is getting in the way)Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

Diss - you are right. Isn't it bizarre that we as the smallest team seem to play the fastest. I think the German team is pretty quick as well.
But some of the other large teams - you gotta wonder. I like that idea that was started about having 3 leaders or folks who could play the turn.Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

Large teams have many opinions on all the small issues and to avoid weeks of discussions need a leader to make those decisions. Small teams have all that settled in couple hours and everyone can play."Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master" - Commissioner Pravin Lal.

OK it looks like we are agreed to send the 3 warriors south. I moved the warrior from our capitol city to the SE. We have another warrior coming out next turn. If need be we can hold him there so our city won't go into civil disorder at size 3 (although it might be size 4 we revolt with no defenders). We can choose the second or third one to block the isthmus if need be.
And the hill is still blocking our view. 1 more turn should give us a good view in the south. There may be other folks out there. Hell we haven't even found any barbarian huts yet.

Diss and Eli - I would recommend that if we need two warriors to hold off disorder, that we do it. I presume the city will hit size four before the settler is produced, but without the game view, that is hard to guage. You are our eyes and ears. Play accordingly.
Another worker to connect the luxury would be nice, but that ain't in the cards right now.
And let's get Willy to the top of the next hill so we can see what we got ......Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

Diss - thanks for the screenshots. Is Willy headed for the mountain he can see?
I don't know about you guys, but the more terrain we uncover, the better I feel about our start position. My reasons:
The peninsula has lots to get us going.
Looks like more mountains coming up - so our chances of finding iron go up.
We are not going to be pressured early by civs from two sides. (and remember - these are human civs, who may not be as reluctant to use an 'early rush' strategy as the AI always is.)
A warrior or city on the chokepoint will keep riff raff out.
IF - and this is a big if - Spain is to our south, it looks like we may have a jungle barrier to keep them in check.
The only drawback I can see goes back to the point about the early use of Immortals, given that we seem to be in an isolated corner of the world. Then again - we will have at least one neighbor.
Any thoughts?Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

3250BCE:
3 warriors moved directly south.
The southern-most warrior uncovered more jungle and a goody hut. Screenshot will be soon sent to everyone.
I changed the slider to Sci-20%, Money-80%.
Turns to research stayed on 25, but the income increased from +0 to +2.
When the city grows in size or falls back to one(because of the settler), we will probably have to play with the slider again.
The worker finished building the road, he will be able to move to the next spot in the next turn.
We should consider connecting the Insence."Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master" - Commissioner Pravin Lal.
