Well, the island would be crowded, to say the least...but you are right, maybe this is the best option inorder for us to get maximum production from the island...

It is obvious that we need to leave our island ASAP. It is also possible that we will have to fight our way into the new continent, and we shouldnt count on getting any Iron from the few hills we have. So it's Archers, Archers, Archers.

sorry about the game. I didn't know that is what we wanted. Will make sure to do that next turn.
Working the cows gives city growth in 7 turns and the game city growth in 10 turns. Either way the warrior will complete in 1 turn. I cannot remember if shields carry over.
So are agreed to emphasis production over city growth? or how do we want to work the tiles?
And I suppose putting the most cities is the best possible strategy. The city square gets a bonus right? is that an extra shield? I cannot remember.
about the city sites I am OK with those however in the north and northwest we have only uncovered 1 water square. It is possible there are whales somewhere else in the northwest. Perhap our warrior that comes out next turn should go north then turn west to uncover the most number of ocean squares.

Warrior wanderings - let Willy finish his trek to the south and see what is there. Let Tim do has Diss has suggested. Go back to the NW - on the mountaintop or hill and get a better view out to see - and maybe more of the landmass to the west.
Cities - Eli - the plan looks good. However, I haven't tried to do a projection as to how long it will take us to get to the end of mapmaking versus how long it will take us to build the city infrastructure you have laid out. My point is that as soon as we can get a galley produced, we can get a settler and a military unit to that next continent - unless of course - it fills up with another civ by then - which there is probably a good of happening.
In which case - yes - we will have to fight our way in - and yes - if we don't have iron - it will be tough.
Either way - we need to squeeze every drop of production out of our island.
Now - the tech tree. I was taking a look at it. Let's assume for a minute that everybody started on an island such as ours - some food tiles - one luxury, etc.
The big advantage will go to those who can get to map making first. - which means Alphabet-Writing and Pottery first. With Map Making that makes four tech advances. Three civs start with either Alphabet or Pottery - Roleplay (Spain), Legoland (Carthage), Demogyptica(Arabia). These guys are only three advances away from getting of the island.
We start with neither, and are currently researching iron working, which means we are actually five advances away - assuming we finish the iron working. And I guess that is the question - do we want to continue - or do we want to switch now?
I recommend sticking to it - once we get iron, we will be strong - but it may be awhile - and we do need to get off the island. It may even be worth trading iron working to another civ (when we meet them) for one of the other four - by then it will probably be map making - guess we cross that bridge when we get there.
Incidentally - the civ to have started with would have been Britain - who start with Alphabet and Pottery. Makes sense - being an island nation. Wonder if Firaxis was thinking about that when they dreamt up the civs and starting advances.
Warrior vs settler - is it possible to switch production to a settler now, and not waste any production waiting for the city to grow to size 3. Another warrior won't do us much good anymore. And if no- what about jon's suggestion of spearman vs warrior. Again - I would suggest as soon as we can get the settler out - let's do it.
Foreign affairs - I have drafted up an introductory communication for the other civs. I want you guys to see it, comment on it, and approve it before I take it to the other teams. I will start a new thread for that discussion. Should have it done later today - I hand wrote it during a boring meeting at work - just have to type it up now.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.
I was going to say - too bad there wasn't a barbarian village or two around - you can quite often get pottery that way - and then I was wondering if perhaps - maybe - just per chance - do we have a goody hut down in the lower south-east corner - looks like there may be one tile yet to uncover.

looks like one tile possibly. But looking at the top of the tile where the land starts coming a back in I suspect that edge of the graphic is just water.
Yeah too bad we didn't get any goody huts.
Our warrior comes out next turn, perhaps then we can switch to a settler.
Well - we opted for 21/5 when we thought we would need the explorers and possible defenders on a larger landmass. Now we just have to grow like mad. Get production, growth, and research. I say we switch to 18/3. Those 3 turns of growth are worth more than 2 warriors.
What do you guys think?
And I assume everyone wants to stick with iron working. The other benefit - now that RP wants to chat with us - is it may be real valuable (and dangerous) in a future trade.
