  • Don't worry we will be sending our warriors thru there soon enough (whenever we get the game save). The question is how fast we can expand through there.

    • 21/5 is fine with me too.

      • Halleluya!

There is grassland after the chokepoint!

21/5 is not possible because of the turns spent working on the cows, so it will be 21/4.

I'll send a screenshot to everyone now.

          • Yes, you're alternate Email address confused me momentarily Eli

Now that we see that "our land" continues southwards, maybe we should give some thought to racing for shipbuilding....of course, it would be nice to claim the isle northwest of our capital before someone else does...

            • Decisions, decisions. Obviously we want to block off the choke point to prevent settling in our little patch of land. If we do that we can delay settling that. Of course our cities would be far apart... If we did that we could send the next city site settler past the choke point. This would delay our second city by a bit, but would ensure we don't get blocked in our patch of land before the choke point.

And map making isn't a priority as much now. I haven't looked at the tech tree recently. But some of the techs to get map making are also Republic techs right? So we can continue to republic and if need be we can switch to map making.

              • Eli you moved that warrior west. Is there anything special you wanted to do with him? In case I play the turn tomorrow. I just want to be on the same page. And what about the third warrior? Are we going to send them all south? I would like to explore the new found territory.

The land gods have answered our prayers! more land!

                • I sent the second warrior to the possible location of the second city, to stand there. I just couldnt think of anything else to do with him.

And IMO the third one should continue south and see what exactly we have there.

                  • Hurray! Land-ho!

I'm at work, and haven't seen the screen save, but from what you say - it sounds good.

I recommend sending three warriors south, when we have four. One sits on the one-tile choke-point to prevent anyone else from getting in. The other two push south, looking for goody huts and other civs and most importantly, new city sites.

I would also recommend continuing to build a road down to the checkpoint to facilitate our movement of troops and settlers to the new landmass.

I firmly believe we should try and stake out our claim to the new territory before our nearest neighbour does.

And - we need iron ...

                    • I'm at home now and have had a look at the map. It is promising! I'm even more convinced we need to get Willy going south to have a look see - and the second warrior park himself on the choke-point - at least until the third is ready to replace him.

Now the big question - seeing all this - where do we build Miller Town. It would seem the options are:

1 south of the lake as originally planned

2 somewhere else on our landmass (not sure where)

3 On the choke-point - it is not a bad spot. It has both grasslands and hills to work with, and would create a nice gateway.

                      4. Further south than that to claim land. Especially if Willy sees a great spot. I'm thinking here that no one will have map making and galleys for awhile. And if we guard the choke point, then no one can get onto our landmass to build. Other than to expedite overall growth - which we can do lots of places - we don't need to rush to build to 'protect' our territory.

It seems to me the trade off is between the lake site - which we can really quickly but which doesn't expand our territory greatly - or delay the build by a turn or two to get the settler to a spot further south.

I think this is a great starting position. We are at one end of a stringy continent - that's my guess from the other archipelago games I ahve played. We will only have one neighbour pressuring us at the start, and I suspect he will be pressured from his other side by the next guy down.

Hence - I vote for grabbing as much territory as we can now. Therefore option 3 or 4. BTW - it also increases our chances of getting iron in the hills to the south if none pop up around the capitol.

                      • I think we should build the city close to the main city to cut down on corrupiton and near the ocean.

                            • 4 seems a little too far away. I do like to get a second city up quickly to speed up research. Maybe we can build in the bottleneck. Otherwise just bild south of the lake.

we still have time to decide. Our warrior may encounter another tribe to the south.
