  • Yup - an excellent point. Hadn't thought of that. If we plunk a city down south - they will likely think it is being done for territorial expansioin reasons, as opposed to resource acquisition.

Question - if the only source is down in the southern mountains - do we build Chokepoint City or go for a southern site? My fear is that GS may try to expand north as quickly as possible to fence us in - and I would hate for a city laid down by GS on the south side of the mountain range to snag the only iron source, and they won't even know they have done it.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

    • Actually, I believe that no matter what happends - or where the iron ends up being, we still need the city at the choke point.

      • But you do have a valid point Beta...I guess we will see on our next turn where the iron is located (hopefully) and we can decide then.

        • the trade will not go through until they have accepted on their turn. Which the have already done I'm sure.

We are just waiting for the turn to get back to us.

I understand you want to see where the Iron is, as we all do. Whoever plays the turn should send screenshots. And put the gold up on the table for Lux for Pottery.

Would they really lay a city down like that? It would be subject to culturual conversion I would think. And we still have units right on the chokepoint, so they can't settle there without going to war...

          We'll see...

          • screen shots sent.

switched research to mysticism. I'm not sure what kind of income research rate you guys want. Right now slider is on 70% for 24 turns.

2 Iron sources located in south estonia. screen shots will show this.

Do we aim for the iron on our 3rd city site?

I gotta get back to work. So I'll check back tonight.

                • I am thinkgin the one to the right could be gotten without letting GS realise it is our source of iron

the one below is probably to open and obvious

                  • you know, just sort of road it between cities

also, building cities there would not seem as agressive to GS

                    • Yup - I agree jon. We could line it up with the wheat-fish site and make it look like that was just regular city planning. It would be good to snag both though. It may be GS's only sources as well - but of course - they won't know for awhile. ha ha.

Listen - had a great chat with Calc on mIRC. Will fill you in with the details on FA thread.

THANKS for the screen shot Dissident!!!!

                      • With the finding of the TWO sources of iron...I'm starting to think that it might be best if we use the next settler (due out in 2 turns) to found a city next to one of the iron sources. We can still leave a spearman at the chokepoint for later settlement, but we need a source of iron now. If we go this route, I suggest founding a city next to the iron source in the east. the reason for this is because it will be quicker to build a road to it rather than the site to the west. Also, I suggest placing the ciity on the tile directly west of the iron source - This is a jungle tile, but will be automatically converted to glassland after we found the city - and it is closer to the grasslands to the northwest (which saves our worker alot of work connecting the city to our empire - of course the worker will still have to build a road on the iron itself.)
                        What does everyone else think?

                        • I think that GS would feel that as too agressive

as lng as we stay north, they will not be too put out

                          • My idea is for us to stay north. The iron located in the east is the northern-most iron source.

Oh, by the way, thanks for the email with your idea Jon. I went ahead and replied back/sent it again to everyone else with my suggestion superimposed over your idea (my idea is depicted by a red dot).

                            • yes, as you see, I agree about the east thing, I thought oyu said west

I see now that you did not

I like my idea better since the roaded iron will look like we are just connecting cities
