  • Tribal Leaders

This thread will be for discussion about who our initial leaders will be. Currently, I have created the following jobs:

High Priest -- Advises on research, culture, etc. Looks out for the good of the nation, keeps us in favor of our deity (until we learn Poly and have to manage several deities). Excellent roleplay options.

Most Trusted Advisor (name may change) -- 2nd in command, most powerful person in the nation other than myself. His advise on any issue will be especially valued. He will take over management of the nation should I be occupied in a battle, away visiting the site of a new palace, or busy with one of my many wives. He will also advise me on matters of treason and recommend people to be killed. This position will be given to my most trusted and respected tribe member (ideally).

Cheif Warrior -- leader of our forces when I cannot personally lead them on the field of battle. I will also send him off to search the lands for new sites for cities for our nation. This job will go to our finest warrior family.

Governor -- EVERY city will be appointed a governor. The greatest city to the greatest noble.

Slave master -- will direct the movement of our workers and slaves.

Cheif Architect -- will oversee all construction in our nation and be able to overrule the governors about what projects to build. Will oversee the construction of Great Wonders and will build me the finest palace in the world

Feel free to PM me with your wishs or express your wishes publicly here for the whole tribe to discuss.

    From Hastragal Gisgar

    To Supreme Leader

    Your Supremity,

I ask your permission to describe for your Supreme attention an urgent concern regarding the personal security of your Supremity and the political regime she intends by sheer benevolence to grant the benefit to all members of the tribe.

All members of the tribe : that is the point. A short survey of the members list show clearly that most of them must be classified as suspect, very suspect or extremely suspect of not loving your Supremity blindly enough.

    A few examples :
    - adaMada : Suspect. His PM box is known to be full most of the time which indicates that he has connections with many people certainly conspiring against your Supremity.
    - Arnelos : Extremely suspect : His immense ambition is now commonly quoted to illustrate the infinite.
    - astrologix : Suspect : He rarely expresses himself not to reveal evil things.
    - DAVOUT : Absolutely faithful and reliable.
    - dejon : Suspect : Recently arrived in the tribe, probably financed by The Gathering Storm or Legoland.
    - F.PRO : Suspect : Recently arrived in the tribe, probably financed by Lux Invicta or Glory of War.
    - General Tacticus : Very suspect. His name indicates that he has Roman ancestors, including possibly the evil Caton.
    - Godking : Very suspect and dangerous. He contends knowing a lot of the future of your Supremity. This will be a permanent threat on your undertakings.
    - History Guy : Extremely suspect. His name alone is an insult to your Supreme knowledge.
    - jdjdjd : Extremely suspect and dangerous. He spends most of his time making people laugh in saying funny things, and the rest in trying (and often succeeding) to confuse people with tortuous arguments.

In order to keep this critical situation under control, I suggest that an agency for interior intelligence be created under cover of the fans club of your Supremity.
Although I am poorly prepared to the difficulties of the job, I would execute without hesitation nor remorse your orders and your enemies.
    Statistical anomaly.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

      Master Togas,

I must note that we do not have a Messenger Service. A fine example of a civilization made great by such a Service is the Incan civilization. It was the largest single empire in North America before the Spaniards came, and (I think) with these dedicated persons news spread at about...oh, it was really fast. A few days at most from one end of the empire to the other.

So I propose that a Messenger Service be created, to deliver messages in an organized and regular format to the peoples of the tribe. This institution's goal would be to transport communications quickly from one part of the empire to another. (Read as: bare-bones newspaper.) I wish, however, not to jump in on such a matter, at least not immediately. If someone more skilled comes along, I suggest giving the position to them.

      Your humble servant,

      Carthalo Mitchell

EDIT: Master, I am truly sorry for the misinformation I have given you. Tacticus has pointed out to me that Incas were in SOUTH America.

Well, if this list is complete, I'm trustworthy

But I will reserve my judgement on that until I find out whether my name was accidentally omitted from the list of suspects. Do I dare trust myself?

I'm in the same boat apparently.

Does this make me a trusted hand of the great Togas?

          I am honored.

              On the matter of messangers...

For now, we as a tribe are all together as our families have been since the time before time. But should there come a time when our numbers grow to such a degree that we may found new settlements, I envision a system whereby each of the noble families shall employ Personal Messangers. We will call them PMs for short.

Our PMs shall deliver messages from family to family.

We shall all take time from our busy days, from our herds and farms and hunts, to gather in the forum and discuss the matters of the nation. It is in the forum where pronouncements and plans are made.

As for Davout ... he is devoted indeed. I do not share his suspicions but I admire his fierce loyalty. I have grown up beside all of you as a child. We have all played together in our youth, raced along the river's edge and thrown stones into the sea. We share the same dream for our people and I believe that we shall see it through.

I seek to unify the tribe into one voice and one purpose. We will make our people wealthy, happy, and secure. We will defeat the barbarians and best any rival tribe. We will create wonders the world has never seen.

                  Felow tribe members:

I'm aware that my family was almost unknown until recently when I was lucky enough to join you at the elite group. This can worry some people enough to want to know who I am and where my loyalties are. I can tell you with no doubts that all our entire family is loyal to the tribe and its great leader Togas, and will be honoured to help the tribe improve and go forward.

As for the other members of the elite families. Well... The world is big and dangerous, and we have no idea of what dangers are waiting outside to attack our tribe. We should stand unite if we don't want them to get over us while we are intriguing about each other. For the great glory of our leader, our tribe, and our families!

Davout, be careful young man. You are not of a great warlike clan as most of us. Insults such as that gain enemies. I have learned from experience that in this position, enemies are not good. You, my friend, seem to have decided to make quite a lot of them.

To His Beneficience, Supreme Despot Togas,
A Letter from Senator Hamilcar History-Guy, hand-delivered by Gastronome Neecap

                      Your Magnamity,

I have, with some apprehension, watched the political maneuverings of this young Hastragal Gisgar, and I must admit to have been shocked by the tremendous lenghts he went to deny everyone else's loyalty, and to place himself as the most logical cantidate for your Most Trusted Advisor. I must assure you that my loyalty is without question, why even our tribes bare the same...avatar, shall we say? Gisgar is a man who is obviously looking out for the highest positions in the land, hoping to win you over (not that he, or anyone else could win over such as a wise and beneficient ruler as yourself, good Togas) and to claim for himself the leadership of Carthage. I think that he should be thus watched carefully, and I have set one of my slaves, Pessimisticus Doltamus, to monitor his movements within the Imperial Capital, to be sure that he is not involved in any plots against the highest powers! We must watch out, for such blatant attempts to gain favor may lead to situations that could prove...dangerous.

Instead, you must judge fairly to find a most loyal and wise man for Most Trusted Advisor.

On another note, my company has produced the latest in glassware, and apparently, my dye company has produced some wonderful things, which I should like to present to you as tribute. Perhaps you could come over to my villa for a quick Squid Sandwich, and the like. I suggest it, in fact. We of the History-Guy Clan are most assuredly your best and most loyal subjects...

                      Signed,
                      In all seriousness,
                      Mostly,
                      Senator Hamilcar History-Guy
                      Empire growing,
                      Pleasures flowing,
Fortune smiles and so should you.

                        GK here.

Me find new cave. Me think if big leader To-gas like new cave, we move. From new cave, we have lots of good things to make tools with. Crops grow there me think. Me have new idea, first we sleep in cave, but then use tools to make cave outside of cave. Good idea think I. If big boss man To-gas agrees of course.

I come to the Palace in seak of peaceful banter amoung friends. Instead, what do I come to find? With shock and horror, I find myself accused of treason and worse! Charge what you may, I have had nothing but loyalty to Lord Togas throughout the ages, which I would hope he would acknowledge. Even now, I follow him here out of loyalty. How, then, become I accused? It is true that my Personal Messenger did indeed fall ill for a period (and is better now). Though this is unacceptable, I was leniant considering he fell ill under the horrific stress of constantly carrying messages to any I might hold sway over in support of our lord. Even so, I find myself accused.

What further horrors can we condone? I, for one, will not stand to see myself and other noble tribesmen slandered without speaking against such actions.

The allegations of my ties with rivaling tribes are lies, LIES I tell you! 'Tis true that I have a somewhat different appearence than the common Carthaginian (and may I add, a very handsome appearance!), and that this appearance greatly resembles that of our enemy tribes, but this is because my great-great grandfather was a Glory of War tribesman. I, however, feel nothing else but Carthaginian blood run through my veins.
I have been away on many voyages making trades (like a true Carthaginian) which make the wealth of our great tribe grow. I have yet to see such contribution to the state from YOU!

                              Honorable Ruler,

My heart and sole yearns to serve you. Sadly, I am rendered deathly ill*, and the womenfolk tell me that I am unable to leave the village without grave risk to myself. Though it pains me to say it, I cannot serve you in any of your current positions, as they would require a great deal of travel to forfil the obligations they imply. Having said that, I would be pleased and honored were I able to serve you from the safety of our village, be it through advice, organizing the other villagers and camp, or messages to any other tribes we may encounter.

Please, accept my club and loyalty. I have no doubt in your leadership, and may it last forever.

                              Forever your servent,
