    Cool idea!

I don't see it realistic for the next 10-15 turns, though...

I don't think the map purchase plan is worth deviating from our path to Republic over, especially considering that we'd have to hand over a non-trivial amount of gold.

Actually, buying a map of the other continent might not be as hard as it would seem at first glance, given that civs there would have to worry about someone else making the sale if they don't. The cheapest way to get one might be as part of a tech deal to someone who is lagging behind.

Too bad we aren't on that island, I would like a piece of the action.

I also wish that we could get screen shots of the goings on. Too bad we can't buy those from a team.

asleep, I wouldn't be surprised that ND keeps us updated to certain extent, or otherwise possibly GoW. At least, I'm hoping for it, as I love those reports too!

Personally, I'm very glad we aren't there. There's a whole lot to be said for being able to grow peacefully while one's enemies slug it out.

Calc II is predicting Lux' demise (he's a member) in the Intersite forum.

Last I heard, we're not expanding peacefully, we're preparing for war (see the title of this and other threads).

I'm going to say this again, but we're in a far better position if we take out Vox with our troops. One superpower will not appear out of the blue on the main continent. If we get in on the fighting over there, we're definitely losing the economic battle (consider, among other things, that we need Galleys while they do not). "Going in and wiping up the remains" will certainly not be as easy as it sounds. And if we do capture a few cities, how does that benefit us if a Leader does not appear? And (going even further), if we do grab land on the main continent, we'll be in no position to defend it against the remaining big boys.

I suspect that a quiet majority of our team wants to build up our economy now, and strike at Vox when things are right. Why is this (IMO, excellent) plan not being discussed more? Do we feel guilty about betraying Vox?

I would agree with this. Vox has been fairly handy, at least recently. I would feel a little guilty about taking advantage of them. OTOH, would they hesitate to take us out? probably not. This is a game, the losers wiill get over it.

I just had a weird idea... I'm not so sure how "fair" it is, but I'll say it anyway.
We call Lux now. We tell them that we sympathise with their discontent with ND and GoW (yeah right...), and we would hate to see Lux's assets fall into the hands of such barbaric warmongers. We tell them that we are about to get contact with them, and that we suggest that they send all of their remaining gold to us, lest it may find its way to GF's greasy hands (or some other expressions of that sort; really, I like GF's character but I want Lux to think that we sympathise). Once Lux Invicta is eradicated (we use a softer term here), all their former members are invited to join our team (of course they'd have to be approved first, but they're invited to apply) and continue playing the game from our perspective.

I know there are plenty of problems with that (mostly that it's somewhat unethical), but I felt that I should share this insane idea with you anyways.

I definitely don't envision getting in on the fighting on the other continent in anything resembling the near future. And it's starting to look like the war is way too one-sided to create the kind of opportunity I was hoping for.

Frankly, I do have ethical qualms about leading Vox to view us as a friendly neighbor and then attacking them. I'm not saying we should rule out the possibility, but if we can find comparably good opportunities elsewhere, I'd rather take them.

As for the "what if a leader doesn't appear?" question, a palace jump would be possible if we run into that scenario.

And finally, in regard to the need for galleys, a crossing from Voxian territory wouldn't require all that many of them. Whether we work with Vox or conquer them, Voxian territory is easily the best jumping-off point for an intercontinental invasion.

We have a big enough team without inviting members from a losing team to join us.

A bit of irony there, trips team joining trash trips ass.

Very creative idea, but a no go for me.

Re Vox: I ain't silent. I want to take them out, but a) time it right, and b) do so honorably.

Re the other continent: That place is gonna be tough for a long time. GoW as China and ND as Ottomans. Ugly. The time for vulturing will be when they go at it (which we might be able to influence ).

Where does the war stand right now, is it a traditional: "declare first" shoot later kind of war? or did hell already broke loose?

We should get an estimate on how much time Lux has (in the case of now deception going on) and how are things going to look after the war- since we probably won't be there to actually influence it (not to serious extent, anyway), we should try to think how things will look afterwards, and how do we prepare for it now?

I think its even a better time to strengthen ties with RolePlay- in this atmosphere of war erupting, it should be easier to make them commit to a more solid relationship- they will be useful in case we decide to discard Vox.

As Dominae said- this is a great oportunity to develop our economy and further strengthen our position while away from the carnage of war- so i think there's no reason to rush in and join the fighting- i don't see a super power emerging from this war, not anyone from the continent at least.
Let's go back to WWI, the world is fighting over the remains of the Austro-hungarian and Ottoman empire, and who emerges as the new world power? the US! that's almost like us!
I know, a crappy example, but inspiring.
